Huskies will look to get back on track against Mustangs in NSIC series
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (11-13, 7-4 NSIC) continues conference play with a three-game series at Legion Field in Marshall, Minn., against Southwest Minnesota State (13-11, 3-9 NSIC) this weekend. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28 at 1:30 p.m. CT following by a single game on Sunday, March 29 at 23:00 p.m. CT.

CASTRO AND MORENO KEEP RACKING
Since joining the Huskies ahead of the 2025 season, junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) has been an extra base machine, hitting 29 last season (16 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs) before adding another 16 (nine doubles, three triples, four home runs) through 24 games this season. Castro's 29 extra base hits in 2025 led all Huskies and ranked just outside the top-10 on SCSU's single season all-time list.
Castro leads the Huskies in OPS (1.088), doubles (nine), triples (three), home runs (four) and slugging percentage (.655). He ranks among the NSIC's top-10 in numerous offensive categories, ranking fourth in triples (three), seventh in doubles (nine) and ninth in slugging percentage (.655).
Redshirt senior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) was named the NSIC Player of the Week after hitting .625 (10-for-16) in a four-game sweep of Northern State at US Bank Stadium on Feb. 26 and 28. Moreno was red hot at the plate in the sweep, hitting .625 (10-for-16) with a double, six RBI, eight runs and five stolen bases. He recorded a .667 OBP% and .688 SLG% for a whopping 1.355 OPS. The Husky senior had two or more hits in three of the four games, including a 4-for-4 with three runs in the 11-1 win on Thursday. Moreno swiped a bag in each game and had two in Saturday's 15-8 win. Following the 10-for-16 performance, Moreno raised his average from .200 to .389.
On the season, he is hitting .359 with a .884 OPS, one home run, seven doubles, 16 RBI, 22 runs and a team-leading 11 stolen bases. His 31 hits rank third among all NSIC hitters, while his 11 stolen bases rank fourth.
NOTES FROM THE MOUND
St. Cloud State has received solid pitching contributions from four of its main starters – senior Eamonn Mulhern (Madison, Wis.), senior Kahler Key (Onalaska, Wis.), senior Bryce Brassfield (Gilbert, Ariz.) and sophomore A.J. Price (Neenah,Wis.). The four Huskies have started 17 of SCSU's 24 games this season, have each won two or more games and all have logged 25 or more innings on the bump.
Mulhern began the season in a long relief role, pitching four or more innings in three contests before moving into the starting rotation. He logged a save in a four-inning outing against Wayne State on Feb. 21, allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk to seal a 11-5 win. Mulhern pitched a seven-inning complete game in a 15-1 win over Bemidji State on March 14, allowing just one unearned run on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Key is 2-2 on the mound with a 30:16 strikeout to walk ratio. He has struck out six or more batters in three of six outings, including a season-high nine in a five-inning outing against Wayne State on Feb. 20.
Brassfield leads the Huskies in innings pitched (34.1) and strikeouts (42), posting a 2-3 record with a 4.46 ERA in six starts. He leads all NSIC hurlers in strikeouts (42) while rankings second in innings pitched (34.1). He pitched a complete game and earned the win against Northern State on Feb. 26, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk with eight strikeouts. He's recorded five or more strikeouts in each of his five outings, including a season-high nine against Saginaw Valley State on March 4.
Price leads the Huskies in victories at 3-1 with a 5.46 ERA and .203 opposing batting average on the mound. His opposing batting average ranks fifth among NSIC pitchers, while 31.1 innings pitched ranks seventh. Price has struck out seven or more batters in three of his last five starts, including eight in two of his last three starts.
