LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies are coming off a series win over the weekend, taking two of three from Winona State. SCSU won the first two in comeback fashion, defeating the Warriors 7-6 and 7-4.
St. Cloud trailed 6-3 entering the seventh inning of game one but rallied to string together six straight singles to tie the score and load the bases. Redshirt junior Josh MuGuin (Toronto, Ontario) lifted a walk-off sacrifice fly to left field to complete the rally. It was the second walk-off win of the season for the Huskies.
In game two, the Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. The Huskies would answer with seven unanswered runs, including five in the bottom of the first. Redshirt freshman Max Robinson (St. Michael, Minn.) his first career home run, a three-run shot to right-center field. Junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) also added a longball, hitting his team-leading eighth homer on solo shot.
Winona State salvaged the series finale, winning 12-8 in a rain-shortened contest. Senior Nick Ibrahim (Woodbury, Minn.) had three hits in the game and drove in four runs, while Robinson picked up two hits and two RBI's.
FRESHMAN LEADS THE WAY
Freshman Ryan Cahoon (Northfield, Minn.) has stepped in immediately and been a go-to bat in the middle of the lineup for the Huskies, leading the team and all NSIC batters in on-base percentage (.550) and walks (38). In addition to those two categories, Cahoon is second on the Huskies in batting average (.367) while ranking second in triples (2), third in slugging percentage (.489), and sixth in hits (33).
Cahoon had five hits against Southwest Minnesota State on March 29, which is tied for the most hits in a single game by an NSIC hitter this season and the most by a SCSU hitter since John Nett had five on April 30, 2023, against Minnesota Duluth. Cahoon drew three walks in the series against Winona State, pushing his season total to 38, third in program history for walks in a single season.
WIL-MIS THAT BALL CASTRO
Since joining the Huskies ahead of the 2025 season, junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) has been an extra base machine, hitting 29 last season (16 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs) before adding another 25 (13 doubles, four triples, eight home runs) through 34 games this season. Castro's 29 extra base hits in 2025 led all Huskies and ranked just outside the top 10 on SCSU's single season all-time list.
Castro leads the Huskies in batting average (.392), OPS (1.243), hits (47), doubles (13), triples (four), home runs (eight), runs (30), RBI's (31), and slugging percentage (.767). He ranks among the NSIC's top 10 in numerous offensive categories, first in triples (four), third in doubles (13), third in slugging percentage (.767), fourth in batting average (.392), and fourth in OPS (1.243).
Castro currently has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, including six multi-hit performances. He had four hits on March 29 at Southwest Minnesota State, while scoring two runs and driving in five.
LARSON DEALING
In his redshirt freshman season, Conner Larson (Jordan, Minn.) has been steadily putting up zeros on the mound for SCSU. Larson has made six appearances, including two starts, totaling 20.1 innings pitched. He's allowed runs in just two of those outings for a 5.31 ERA, and opposing batters are hitting just .192 against the righthander, the lowest mark on the team (minimum 5.0 innings pitched).
Larson last pitched against Winona State on April 10, throwing 6.0 shutout innings out of the bullpen and earning his second win of the season. That extends Larson's scoreless streak up to 10.1 innings.
THE BRYCE IS RIGHT
In his second season with SCSU, senior Bryce Brassfield (Gilbert, Ariz.) has been lights out in the rotation for the Huskies. Brassfield leads the team in innings pitched (46.1), strikeouts (57), complete games (2), and is tied for the team lead in wins (3).
Brassfield has also been one of the top pitchers in the conference, leading the NSIC in strikeouts (57) and complete games (2) while ranking fifth in innings pitched (46.1) and eighth in ERA (4.27).
In his last start against Crookston, Brassfield threw the third complete game of his Huskies career while setting a new career-high in strikeouts with 11. It was the third start of the season for Brassfield of 7.0 innings or longer, and he has pitched at least 5.0 innings in six of his eight starts.
