Joey Nelson joined the St. Cloud State football coaching staff in 2019. He currently in his first season as an assistant coach, working with wide receivers.
Nelson joins the Huskies coaching staff after a stint at Dakota State University in Madison, South Daota, where he served as the tight ends coach during the 2017 season. Prior to that, Nelson was the wide receivers coach at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls South Dakota for seven seasons from 2010-2016 and again in 2018. Additionally, Nelson was a wide receivers coach at Brookings High School from 2007 to 2009.
At the high school level, Nelson coaches nine South Dakota Elite 45 selections, 14 All-State selections, 18 All-Conference selections and seven Academic All-State selections. He played collegiate football at Dakota State, where he earned both his Bachelor and Masters degrees.
Nelson, along with his wife Kelsey and dog Libby currently reside in St. Cloud, Minnesota and are both natives of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
