Grimit has established a tradition of success for the defensive linemen at St. Cloud State. The Husky system supports aggressive defensive line play that has helped players realize their potential at the collegiate level.
He has coached numerous All-Conference defensive linemen, six All-Americans in Charlie Cosgrove, Ryan Kees, Cale Pulczinski, Troy Kluck, Jason Sell, and Brent Graunke, along with two conference MVPs in Cosgrove (2005) and Pulczinski (2008).
Prior to landing at St. Cloud State where he also coached the Husky wrestling team, Grimit coached at Western Illinois University and Valparaiso University. He wrestled and played football in college, qualified for the NCAA Division I Wrestling National Championships and was a co-captain of his Western Illinois football team in 1985.
Grimit graduated from Western Illinois University in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. Steve and his wife Kim have two children, Nicole and James.
