Matt Craggs double double fuels men's basketball 79-71 win over Northern State

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State senior forward Matt Craggs (Kimberly, Wis.) posted a double-double and the Huskies scored a 79-71 win over Northern State University in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action Friday night at Halenbeck Hall.
The Huskies improved to 13-4 overall and 9-4 in the NSIC, and will play MSU Moorhead Saturday evening at 6 p.m. The Huskies and Dragons are tied for second in the NSIC North, one game behind Bemidji State. Northern State is 13-6 overall and 8-5 in the NSIC.
The win gives the Huskies a 9-0 record at home this season. Craggs posted his third double-double of the season as he finished with a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. He was seven-of-11 from the free throw line, had four assists and four steals.
Guards Jordan Poydras (De Pere, Wis.), Damarius Cruz (Plymouth) and forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) each had 14 points for the Huskies. Cruz added three assists and three steals and made three, three-point baskets.
St. Cloud State shot 43.9 percent from the field, went 10-of-20 from three-point ranges and outrebounded the Wolves, 34-31.
Northern State had four players score in double figures. Jared Hannigan led the Wolves with 15 points, making four three-point baskets. He was one of three NSU players with five rebounds in the game. Skye Warwick made four from the beyond the arc to finish with 12 points. The Wolves leading scorer this season, Seth Bachand, was held to 10 points and Tydan Storrusten had nine assists and 10 points. The Wolves shot 50 percent from the field.
After Jordan Poydras hit a jumper at the 15:40 mark of the first half, the Huskies never trailed in the game and opened up a 16 point lead on another Poydras basket with under four minutes left in the half. Storrusten scored four of the Wolves final eight points of the first half but the Huskies took a 35-25 lead into intermission.
A pair of three's from Hannigan, an old fashion three-point play by Trent Zomer and a dunk by Carter Evans, drew the Wolves to within three of the Huskies, 39-36 at 15:58 of the second half.
A three-point basket from Poydras gave the Huskies their biggest lead of the second half, 62-49 with 7:24 left. A Skye Warwick three-point basket pulled NSU to within five poinf the Huskies, 73-68 with 1:15 left in the game.
