Nate Meyer leads Huskies to 55-27 win at MSU Moorhead

St. Cloud State improved to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC North. MSU Moorhead is 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the North.
Meyer connected on touchdown passes of 20, 22, 20 and 25 yards. He scored on touchdown runs of 11 and six yards. Meyer finished the game 17 of 35 passing for a career high 347 yards and four touchdowns. He rushed the ball 12 times for25 yards
The teams combined for 34 points in the first half, all in the first quarter as the Huskies and Dragons traded scores. MSUM was the first to score on a 33-yard run from quarterback Jake Hodge. The Huskies answered with Meyer's first touchdown pass of the game, a 20-yard completion to Kasai Farris. Hodge completed an eight-yard pass to Hunter Braaten and Meyer hit Grant Thayer on a 22-yard play but the Huskies missed the extra point and MSUM led 14-13. Meyer finished the quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run and St. Cloud State took a 20-14 lead into halftime.
"We knew Moorhead would have a high powered offense", said Huskies head coach Scott Underwood. "Our defense settled down in the third and fourth quarters and made those interceptions. We felt we needed to score points to be successful in this game and were able to get points off of turnovers."
MSUM quarterback Jake Hodge ran for 65 yards and one touchdown. He also completed 13 of 22 passes for 159 yards and one touchdown before leaving the game with an injury in the second quarter.
The Huskies collected a season high 541 yards of total offense while MSUM collected 470 yards of offense.
St. Cloud State travels to Northern State next Saturday for an NSIC North Division game against the Wolves. NSU lost to Minnesota Duluth this afternoon, 43-30 in Duluth.
Huskies Highlights
- Quarterback Nate Meyer had posted career highs with his 347 yards passing and four touchdowns. He threw for 230 yards in the first half, nearly surpassing his previous game high of 249 yards. It was the third straight game that Meyer has passed for at least two touchdowns.
- Junior runningback Ledell White rushed 28 times for a career high 169 yards and one touchdown. He scored on a three-yard run late in the fourth quarter. It marked the third 100-yard rushing game of the season for White and fifth of his collegiate career.
- Senior wide receiver Taylor Berger had five catches for 138 yards, 11 yards short of his career high high. Berger had three catches for 107 yards in the first half. He is closing in on the 1,000 career receiving yard mark with 861 yards.
- Junior tight end Grant Thayer finished the game with three catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns. It marked the second straight game that Thayer has caught two scoring passes. He also scored a touchdown when he recovered a fumble in the end zone.
- Senior safety Kyle Risinger collected his third pick of the season and the Huskies came away with three interceptions on the day. Risinger finished the game with five tackles.
- True freshman Gary Koehring had the first pick of his collegiate career. His INT in the third quarter stopped MSUM on the Huskies 13-yard line.
- Junior cornerback Jordan Sefon had the Huskies third pick of the day that he returned for 29 yards.
- Redshirt freshman Brady Westart led the Huskies with eight tackles. He also had one quarterback sack and one and a half tackles for loss.
MSUM Highlights
- Wide receiver Adam Jiskra caught nine passes for 121 yards
- Wide receiver Cory Ambrose had five catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdown receptions were for 49 and 44 yards.
- Runningback Zayne Medhaug had nine catches for 65 yards.
- Back-up quarterback Demetrius Carr completed 14 of 30 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns, both to Carr
- Linebacker Abe Roehrich led all players with ten tackles
