Huskies Football falls at Northern State, 45-23

The Huskies are 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC North. Northern State improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the North division.
St. Cloud State, after forcing Northern State to punt on the game's opening drive, struck quickly, as Huskies quarterback Nate Meyer found Matt Hentges over the middle for a 58-yard touchdown play. Northern State responded on the next drive with a 50-yard scoring play on a pass from Jared Jacobson to Connor Doherty.
The Huskies led 14-7 after the first quarter on a 17-yard run by Meyer. Northern State then outscored the Huskies 38-9 in the final three quarters, shutting the Huskies out in the fourth. The Huskies drew to within four, 21-17, on a 46-yard Eric Mielke field goal in the second quarter but that's the closest SCSU would get.
St. Cloud State returns home to host Bemidji State next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Husky Stadium. The Beavers lost to Minnesota Duluth, 38-10 today.

- The Huskies gained 178 yards on the ground and 367 in the air for a total offense of 545 yards. It marked the second straight game and third in the last four that SCSU has collected over 500 yards of offense in a game.
- St. Cloud State was whistled for a season high 12 penalties.
- Huskies quarterback Nate Meyer completed 27 of 49 pass attempts for 367 yards, all season and career highs. He had two touchdown strikes but was intercepted four times.
- Sophomore wide receiver Matt Hentges (Eagan, Minn.) caught eight passes for 127 yards, both career highs, and caught one touchdown pass. The touchdown reception was the second of his career.
- Junior runningback Ledell White (Milwaukee, Wis.) rushed for his fourth 100-yard game of the season and sixth of his career. He finished the day with 24 carries for 112 yards.
- Junior tight end Grant Thayer (Appleton, Wis.) caught two passes for 25 yards and one touchdown. He has caught at least one touchdown pass in three straight games and has five during that span.
- Sophomore receiver Cole Otto (Chanhassen, Minn.) caught the first collegiate pass of his career and finished the game with two receptions for 19 yards with a long of ten.
- Jaden Huff (Bollingbrook, Ill.), a redshirt first-year player caught his first collegiate pass for a gain of seven yards.
- Redshirt first-year receiver Brett Wainwright (Oswego, Ill.) collected 90 yards in kick-off returns with a long of 31 yards.
- Safety Kyle Risinger (Excelsior, Minn.) and linebacker Gary Koehring (Kanesville, Ill.) each had six tackles in the game.
- Risinger added two pass break-ups and a forced fumble to his stat line.

- The Wolves finished the game with 455 yards of total offense, including 160 on the ground and 295 in the air.
- Defensive backs Joe Parsley and Paul Woodward had two interceptions each in the game. Three of the interceptions led to scores on the ensuing possession and the fourth ended the game.
- Woodward tallied nine tackles in the game and six pass break-ups. Parsley finished the game with seven tackles.
- Linebacker Devin Olson collected a game high ten tackles.
- Jacobson completed 24 of 36 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns. He rushed 11 times for 61 yards.
- Connor Doherty was the favorite receiving target, making ten catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns. He had a long catch of 50 yards, the first scoring strike of the game for the Wolves.
