Men's basketball gains a 78-66 win over Minnesota Crookston

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's basketball team posted a 78-66 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division win over Minnesota Crookston Friday night at Halenbeck Hall and drew within one game of first place in the division.
With the win St. Cloud State improved to 18-7 overall and 14-7 in the NSIC. Minnesota Crookston dropped to 4-21 and 1-20 in the league. The Huskies will host divisional leader Bemidji State Saturday at 6 p.m. The Beavers lost at Minnesota Duluth 81-65.

Four of the Huskies starters scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Jordan Poydras (De Pere, Wis.) led the Huskies with 16 points, five assists and five steals. Senior forward Matt Craggs (Kimberly, Wis.) recorded his fifth double double of the season with 13 points, ten rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Damarius Cruz (Plymouth) added 12 points on four three-point baskets and sophomore Seth Mortag (Brookfield, Wis.) in his second start of the season scored a season high 11 points.
Minnesota Crookston's Derrick Redd led all players with 23 points as he went 10 of 15 from the field. Brandon Burns notched a double double of ten points and ten rebounds.
The Golden Eagles shot 51 percent from the field while the Huskies went 48.4 percent. St. Cloud State held a 34-30 rebounding edge and made nine three-point baskets.
St. Cloud State led 42-24 at the half.
The Huskies will celebrate the senior class in an on-court recognition ten minutes prior to tomorrow's tip-off. Matt Craggs, Damarius Cruz, Nigel Fowler-Canty, Chris Larson and Preston McCourt make up the 2014 senior class.
Husky fans are invited to stay for a post-game celebration and reception in honor of head coach Kevin Schlagel who is retiring at the end of the school year.
