Second half comeback falls short in men's basketball, 91-88 loss at MSU Moorhead

Moorhead, Minn. – MSU Moorhead held off a second half comeback by St. Cloud State and the Dragons hung on for a 91-88 win over the Huskies in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division play Friday night in Moorhead.
St. Cloud State is 15-6 overall and 11-6 in the NSIC. MSU Moorhead improved to
16-5 and 12-5 in the NSIC. The Huskies will play at Northern State Saturday night.
Three Huskies scored 20 or more points in the game, led by sophomore guard Jordan Poydras (De Pere, Wis.) with 23 points. Poydras had a team-high six rebounds and dished out five assists.
Senior guard Damarius Cruz (Plymouth) scored 22 points on seven of 11 shooting from the field and made five three-point baskets. Senior forward Matt Craggs (Kimberly, Wis.) added 20 points, six assists and four rebounds.
The Huskies shot 66.7 percent from the field in the second half and finished the game at 56.9 percent. St. Cloud State made 11 three-point baskets.
MSUM senior guard Tarell Clark posted a double double, leading all players with 27 points and ten rebounds. He went 12 of 14 from the field. He scored ten of his points in the first minutes of the game. Malik Wood added 16 points and four assists. Tyler Vaughan added 15 points and four rebounds.
The Dragons shot 63.9 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Huskies, 32-19.
The Huskies trailed 53-43 at halftime and MSUM led by 19 early in the second half.
The Huskies went on a 34-16 run that included a stretch where Cruz scored three straight three's and four of the Huskies five straight and pulled to within one points, 84-83 at the 4:12 mark.
The Dragons Malik Wood scored four of the MSUM's final seven points to take a 91-85 lead. A traditional three-point play by Cruz pulled the Huskies to within three, 91-88 with 1:37 left in the game. Both teams missed on three point scoring attempts and with 12.4 seconds on the clock the Huskies had the ball at midcourt but an attempt by sophomore guard Jordan Poydras (De Pere, Wis.) missed its mark.
