Men's basketball tops Northern State 76-58 to earn weekend road split

Aberdeen, S.D. – St. Cloud State men's basketball ended its weekend on a high note in a 76-55 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division win over Northern State University Saturday in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Huskies rebounded from a 91-88 loss at MSU Moorhead on Friday. St. Cloud State improved to 16-6 overall and 12-6 in the NSIC. The Huskies remain in a second place tie in the North Division with MSUM. Northern State went to 14-10 overall and 9-9 in the NSIC and is in fourth place in the North.
St. Cloud State senior guard Damarius Cruz (Plymouth) opened the game with a three-point basket and the Huskies never trailed in the game. The Huskies led 30-19 at half time and pushed the lead to 24 points at the 6:18 mark of the second half.
Huskies sophomore guard Jordan Poydras (De Pere, Wis.) led all scorers with 23 points. He also added four assists.
Cruz scored 15 points, all on three-point baskets. He went five of 11 from three-point range and made a season high five treys for the second straight game.
Senior forward Matt Craggs (Kimberly, Wis.) tallied his fourth double double of the season with an 11 points, ten rebound game. Junior guard Kevin Levandoski (Appleton, Wis.) added 11 points as four of the Huskies starters scored in double figures.
St. Cloud State shot 49 percent from the field, made ten three-point baskets and went 16 of 18 from the free throw line.
Northern State's Darin Peterka led the Wolves with 21 points. Northern State shot 38.2 percent from the field, went nine of 20 at the free throw line, and out-rebounded the Huskies, 35-33.
St. Cloud State is on the road again next weekend with games at Winona State on Friday and Upper Iowa on Saturday.
