St. Cloud started the game early taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Eric Loxtercamp led off with a single to right center and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brandon Arnold would move Loxtercamp with a single and was followed by Michael Jurgella flying out to center field for Loxtercamp to score on the throw.Â
Jamestown tied the game up 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning on a single to left center.Â
Â
The Huskies regained a lead in the second scoring two runs on three hits with a huge double by Loxtercamp for two RBIs and a 3-1 Husky lead.Â
In the bottom of the third inning, the Jimmies once again tied the game up 3-3 scoring two runs off a single down the left field line. That was not going to put the Huskies down though as they came out in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead. A double by Kyle Lieser brought in one run, while a single by Brandon Arnold and an error on the first baseman brought in the other two runs.Â
St. Cloud was fortunate to put up another four runs in the top of the fifth off of six hits. They would continue to control the game scoring one run in the seventh and five in the top of the ninth for a 16-3 lead over the Jimmies. Jurgella was the big hitter in the ninth for the Huskies as he hit a three-run bomb over the left center-field fence for the 16-3 lead.Â
The Jimmies though would try and make a comeback in the bottom half of the ninth scoring three runs on two hits and two Husky errors for a 16-6 final.Â
Earning the win on the mound for St. Cloud was Kyle Fischer with five innings of work on the mound and only allowing eight hits. Fischer moves his record to 3-0 on the season.
St. Cloud State (11-3, 0-0 NSIC) will be back in action next weekend on March 21-22 as they start conference play against Winona State University.Â
