St. Cloud, Minn. -Â St. Cloud State will open NSIC play this weekend, taking on Winona State for four games. The series has been moved to Omaha, Neb. due to lingering snow on the field in Winona. The teams will play a doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday before meeting again for a doubleheader at noon on Sunday. They will play both days at Westside High School.Â
The Huskies are coming off a four game win streak as they played six games in Arizona last week, posting a total 5-1 record that included matchups with three other NSIC teams. St. Cloud outscored their opponents by a margin of 66-to-34 overall and in the last four games by a margin of 51-to-20.Â
Leading the Huskies so far this season is senior outfielder Garrett Fischer with a .453 batting average (24 hits, 53 at-bats) including four doubles and one triple. Fischer has also tallied 12 RBI and defensively a .958 fielding percentage. Michael Jurgella, Zach Hoffmann, Karl Sorensen, Tyler Patterson, Brandon Arnold and Eric Loxtercamp are also all batting over .400 for the Huskies.Â
St. Cloud finished the 2013 regular season as the NSIC Champions with a 19-3 mark. The Huskies overall posted a record of 37-11 and were the NCAA DII Regional Runner-Up.Â
The Huskies first home game this year is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2 against Southwest Minnesota State with the doubleheader getting underway at 1:30 p.m. from Joe Faber Field weather permitting.Â
