SCSU Baseball Drops Game Against Northern State, 8-5

With a late start to the game it was scoreless for three and a half innings before Northern State would take the first lead of the game. With two outs, the Wolves posted back-to-back doubles and a single to bring in three runs for a 3-0 lead.
St. Cloud made a comeback in the top of the fifth inning as Max Ditty led off the inning earning a walk to be followed up with an RBI triple to right center by Eric Loxtercamp. Garrett Fischer grounded out to second base earning an RBI bringing home Loxtercamp. Michael Jurgella then doubled to left center, while Zach Hoffmann also doubled making it a 3-3 game. Travis Enger hit a single and advanced to second on the throw and taking the Huskies first lead of the game. Brandon Arnold was able to make it a 5-3 game as he doubled down the left field line.
Coming into the fifth inning the Huskies would make a change on the mound as Ryan Diers came into the game to relieve Chris Kubitz. Northern State came back though to tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth inning and then took a 6-5 lead on a double and then a two-RBI single all with one out on the board.
The Wolves extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth posting two more runs for an 8-5 game.
St. Cloud made adjustments but were just unable to get any to go their way for a comeback as they fell to Northern State by a final score of 8-5.
Kubitz posted four innings on the mound for St. Cloud striking out seven with four straight in a row. Pitcher of record was Ryan Diers as he allowed three runs for NSU to take the lead. Also seeing action on the mound was Nick Maiers for 0.2 innings, Corey Fitzgerald for two innings, and Scott Sanderson closing out the game.
The Huskies (7-3) will take Monday off and be back in action here in Tucson on Tuesday, March 11 against the Bemidji State Beavers for a 7 p.m. CT game at the Kino Sports Complex.Â
