Huskies Split Doubleheader at Minot State Sunday

Minot, N.D. - St. Cloud State baseball and Minot State were back at it Sunday for another doubleheader series. The Huskies and Beavers split the doubleheader at Minot took game one 6-1 and St. Cloud prevailed in game two 16-3.
In game one, Minot State took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first over St. Cloud. The Huskies were able to come back in the second to put up one run as Kyle Lieser singled to right field scoring Sam Boisner who had reached on a walk making it a 2-1 game. Unfortunately that was all St. Cloud was able to do as the Beavers posted three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to come away with a 6-1 victory. Garrett Fischer led the Huskies at the plate in game one going 2-for-3.
Starting on the mound for the Huskies was Chris Kubitz as he pitched three innings and pitcher of record. Coming in to finish the game at the mound was Scott Sanderson for three innings of work as he allowed only two hits.
Game two was a different story as the Huskies got on the board right away in the first inning for a 1-0 lead over the Beavers. St. Cloud scored off a RBI single to right field by Zach Hoffmann bringing in Brandon Arnold who had reached on a double down the left field line. Continuing to move their lead the Huskies posted three runs on two hits in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. Zak Hoffman doubled to left center for the first run and then Reese Gregory hit a two-run home run over the left field fence for a 4-0 game.
St. Cloud would take a 6-0 lead over Minot before they were able to get a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth the Huskies showcased two home runs which came as Zak Hoffman hit a solo to left center and Eric Loxtercamp hit a two-run home run taking St. Cloud to a 9-1 lead. Minot posted one run each in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to trail by six but the Huskies exploited their opportunities in the eighth to score seven runs on three hits and one error by Minot for a final of 16-3.
On the mound in game two for St. Cloud was Garrett Harrison as he pitched 4.1 innings of work allowing only two hits and 1 run. Pitcher of record was Reese Gregory with 1.2 innings of work to move his season record to 6-1. Also seeing some action was Adam Harlander and Nick Maiers each for one inning. St. Cloud ended the game with 13 hits and 14 RBI.
The Huskies (19-6, 8-3 NSIC) are set to be back in action on Wednesday, April 9 at Minnesota Crookston for a doubleheader series. The first pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. from the UMC Baseball Field.
