Huskies football falls to Minnesota State University, Mankato 31-0 in season opener

Mankato, Minn. – St. Cloud State (0-1) went on the road to open the 2014 football season and met up with a strong Minnesota State University, Mankato (1-0) team, falling to the Mavericks, 31-0 Thursday night at Blakeslee Stadium.

- Huskies junior runningback Ledell White gained 59 yards rushing on 12 carries and has 968 career rushing yards.
- Sophomore runningback Kenneth Walker added 69 yards to the Huskies ground attack.
- For the first time in four years, a new quarterback was on the field for the Huskies.
- Quarterbacks Nate Meyer and Jameson Parsons shared the play calling duties.
- Meyer started the game, completed two of eight passes for 20 yards, was intercepted twice and rushed for 34 yards
- Parsons completed four of six passes for 47 yards
- The Huskies defense was led by sophomore linebacker Adam Josephson with a game and career high 16 tackles, including two tackles for losses
- Senior safety Kyle Risinger collected the Huskies first interception of the season and fifth of his career
- Mavericks runningback Andy Pfeiffer rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown. MSU quarterback Ricky Lloyd threw two touchdown passes and completed eight of ten passes for 91 yards.
- The Mavericks scored 17 first half points including a 51-yard Alden Haffar field goal
- The win was the third victory for the Mavericks over the last 12 games of the series
- Attendance was 6,022, the largest opening-game crowd in Minnesota State football history.
- St. Cloud State will host Wayne State College next Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Huskies home opener.
- It's Celebrate! St. Cloud State and Family Weekend and the Huskies Fan Fest gets underway at noon in the parking lot near the south entrance of Husky Stadium.
