Â
Junior quarterback Nate Meyer was limited to seven completions, but did throw for 234 yards and also ran for a pair of touchdowns. Junior Jameson Parsons hauled in three passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Jaden Huff carried the ball 18 times for 92 yards and a score. Senior Jordan Sefon had 15 tackles and a stop for loss to lead the defensive effort.
Â
The Huskies struck first on a 62-yard third down touchdown strike from Meyer to Parsons to take the 7-0 lead at the 14:06 mark of the first quarter.
University of Mary, who came into the contest only averaging a little over eight points a game on the season, changed that trend and marched down the field on their initial possession on a 14-play, 93-yard drive that was completed on a Caleb Buck to Conner Graves 30-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at seven all.
Â
SCSU took the lead back at the end of the first half on a six-yard touchdown rush from Donte Starlin-Merriam at the 3:12 mark of the second quarter. The touchdown was his first of the season and third of his career. The big play of the drive was a 69-yard third down reception from freshman Vance Barnes.
Â
After a scoreless third quarter, the Huskies added a touchdown on the first play in the fourth as Meyer faked the dive and kept the ball himself for a 49-yard touchdown rush to give SCSU a 21-7 lead at the 14:50 mark of the final quarter.
Parsons got to the end zone for the second time in the game when he took a 46-yard pass from Meyer and ran through the Mary defense for the score with 10:06 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Â
Huff scored the Huskies' third touchdown of the fourth quarter on a six-yard plunge with 7:33 left. The offense was put into an outstanding scoring position as freshman defensive back Jamari Manuel intercepted a pass and returned it 58-yards to the Marauders' one-yard line.
Â
Meyer ran for his second touchdown of the game on a five-yard rush to increase the margin to 42-7 with 2:31 remaining in the contest.
Notes
- Nate Meyer threw two touchdowns in the game and ended his season with multiple touchdown passes in his last seven games.
- Jameson Parsons went over 100 yards receiving for the seventh time this season with 120 yards.
Â
- Jaden Huff scored his 13th rushing touchdown of the season and scored a touchdown in seven games this season.
