
#1 St. Cloud State baseball collects wins at UMD on April 29

The two wins helped the Huskies stay atop the NSIC standings and also stay tied for first in the league with Minnesota State, who also owns a 27-3 league record after picking up two wins over Wayne State on April 29. Â The Huskies will finish their regular season NSIC schedule with a pair of doubleheaders at Northern State on May 1 and May 2. Â Minnesota State will finish its NSIC season on May 1-2 with games at home against Winona State.
In game one, the Huskies took full advantage of five home runs to post the big 20-8 win as SCSU outhit the Bulldogs 25-8 in the contest. Â SCSU's Reese Gregory was pitcher of record with eight strikeouts in the game as he pitched 5.0 innings of five-hit baseball. Â This victory was Gregory's 10th of the season for the Huskies.
In the game, Mike Jurgella had a grand slam homer, three hits and four RBIs to pace SCSU on offense. Â He was one of five SCSU players to hit homers as the group also included Sam Boisner, Karl Sorensen, Kyle Lieser and Zak Hoffman. Â Lieser along with teammates Eric Loxtercamp and Gregory all had four hits in the game for SCSU.
The Huskies opened with five runs in the first inning and then posted a run in the second inning and three in the third inning to take a 9-3 lead. Â In the fifth inning, SCSU pushed out eight runs and then finished the scoring with one more run in the top of the sixth and two runs in the seventh.
In game two, the Huskies scored four runs in the fourth and then posted two runs apiece in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to gain a 10-0 lead. Â UMD rallied with six runs in the bottom of the seventh and then made things interesting with one run each in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings before SCSU completed the day with a 10-8 win.
Garrett Harrison was the pitcher of record for the Huskies with 7.0 innings of work that include six strikeouts. Logan Spitzack and Gregory finished the game for the Huskies with Gregory earning his fifth save of the year in the game.
At the plate, SCSU outhit the Bulldogs 14-13 as Loxtercamp led the club with four hits on the day. Â Jurgella blasted out two home runs to push his season total to a team-leading 11 in 2015. He ended the game with three hits and three RBIs. Â Beau Fandel and Gregory each had two hits in the game, while Sorensen also had a home run for the victorious Huskies.
