No. 1 seed Huskies to open NSIC tournament on May 6 in Sioux Falls

The regular season conference champion St. Cloud State University baseball team (47-3, 31-3 NSIC) will open the 2015 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball tournament as the number one seeded team on Wednesday, May 6 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Huskies will begin tournament play on May 6 with an 11 a.m. date against number eight seed Northern State University (25-24, 18-18 NSIC). The game will be played on the campus of Augusna College at Ronken Field.
The double-elimination NSIC tournament will continue in Sioux Falls, S.D. through Saturday, May 9. Games will be played at Ronken Field and Sioux Falls Stadium, with the final two days of play being held on Ronken Field (weather permitting).Â
In other first round games, number two seed Minnesota State (40-5, 30-4 NSIC) will play number seven seed Winona State (21-28, 19-17 NSIC) at 3 p.m. on May 5 at SF Stadium. Number three seed Augustana (34-15, 25-9 NSIC) will play number six seed Concordia-St. Paul (21-21, 19-15 NSIC) at 3 p.m. on Ronken Field and number four seed Minnesota Duluth (32-14, 26-10 NSIC) will play number fifth seed Wayne State (27-22, 22-14 NSIC) at 11 a.m. at SF Stadium on May 6.
Second round opponents, times and game sites will all be determined by the results of the first round.Â

The St. Cloud State University baseball team captured the 2015 NSIC regular season championship thanks to a perfect 6-0 record over the last week. The Huskies opened the week with two wins at Minnesota Duluth on April 29 and then completed the run with four wins at Northern State on May 1-2. The Huskies completed their regular season schedule with a 47-3 overall record and a 31-3 first place mark in the always rugged NSIC.
This is the second regular season NSIC title for the Huskies under the leadership of head coach Pat Dolan. SCSU also won the NSIC regular season title in 2013. SCSU will open play in the upcoming NSIC tournament as the number one seed. SCSU won the NSIC postseason tournament in 2011. Of note, SCSU won Northern Intercollegiate Conference titles in 1978, 1976, 1971, 1970, 1969, 1967, 1965 and 1964. SCSU won the NIC tournament in 1980. As a member of the North Central Conference, SCSU won the NCC tournament in 1991 and won NCC North Division crowns in 1988, 1989 and 1994.
The Huskies need to win one more game this season to tie the team record for most victories in a season. The current record of 48 wins was set in 2012 (48-12). SCSU will bring a 47-3 record into first round play of the NSIC playoffs on May 6 vs. Northern State.
Pat DolanSCSU coach Pat Dolan is just the second coach in school history to win 300 or more games during his career. Dolan's record at SCSU is 316-109-1 since 2008. The all-time win leader for the Huskies is Denny Lorsung, who posted 546 wins from 1979-2006.
Eric Loxtercamp has 83 hits this season, which ranks third in the team records. The current team record of 96 hits was set by Jordan Smith in 2010. Smith is currently playing baseball in the Cleveland organization for the Akron Rubber Ducks (AA) this summer.
Mike Jurgella is tied for second in the team records with 13 home runs in 2015. Joey Benke also had 13 homers in 2010, while Jordan Smith set the team standard with 15 roundtrippers in 2010. Of note, SCSU's team record for most homers in a season is 58 in 2010. As a team, SCSU has 55 home runs in 2015.
 The Huskies have 620 hits this season, while the current team record for most hits in a season is 653 in 2010.
SCSU has already set a new team record for most shutouts in a season with 11 in 2015. The old record of 10 shutouts was set in 2013.
Mike Jurgella is leading the team this season with a .438 batting average. For SCSU players with 100-or-more at bats during their career, Jurgella's batting average ranks fifth in the team season records. Of note, Jordan Smith is the top SCSU batter with a .457 batting clip in 2010.
SCSU is outscoring its opponents 452-145 in 2015.
Rookie Sheldon Miks is pacing the Huskies this season with a 1.04 batting clip in 2015. He is 9-0 this season with 45 strikeouts.
Junior ace Reese Gregory owns a 10-0 record this spring, which includes six saves and a 1.31 ERA. He leads the team with 73 strikeouts this spring. He needs one more win this year to tie the team record of 11 wins set in 2013 by Kyle Fischer. A two-time All-American, Gregory is a multi-talented threat at the plate too. In 2015, Gregory is batting .350 with five homers and 38 RBIs.
 The #1 seeded Huskies will open play in the 2015 NSIC tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. with an 11:00 a.m. game on May 6 against #8 seed Northern State. The game will be played at Ronken Field. The double-elimination tournament will continue through May 9 in Sioux Falls, S.D. In the other first round games #5 Wayne State will play #4 Minnesota Duluth, #7 Winona State will play #2 Minnesota State and #6 Concordia-St. Paul will play #3 Augustana.
