The St. Cloud State University football team (1-1, 0-0 NSIC North) lost a 41-27 decision at Augustana University (2-0, 0-0 NSIC South) in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday, Sept. 12, in a contest that feature over 900 yards of combined total offense by the two squads.
SCSU opened the game's scoring in the first quarter with a two-yard TD run by Jaden Huff that capped an 11 play, 82-yard drive for the Huskies at 9:26. Â Augustana replied minutes later with an 18-yard TD catch by Charlie Hayes from QB Trey Heid at 5:33 of the first.
In the second quarter, a 14-yard pass from SCSU's Nate Meyer found Matt Hentges in the end zone to make it 13-7. Â Augustana rallied with two scoring passes from Heid to Hayes that pushed the games score to 21-13 in the second quarter. Â The Huskies closed the gap to 21-19 at 1:27 of the second quarter when Meyer posted his second TD pass of the game with a 17-yard strike to receiver Jameson Parsons. Â AU ended the first half scoring with a 26-yard field goal to make it 24-19 at the break.
In the third quarter, AU's Lucas Wainman hit a 29-yard field goal to push the Vikings' lead to 27-19. Â In the final quarter of play, the Huskies' Meyer clicked for another TD strike at 14:56. Â This time he connected on a one-yard play to Sam Hartman, which tied the score at 27-27 after the two-point conversion. Â Augustana sealed the win later in the fourth quarter with a pair of touchdown passes. Â At 11:17, Matt Heller connected with Heid on a touchdown pass to make it 34-27. Â Heid then connected on another TD strike to Charlie Hayes on a three-yard toss at 6:06 of the fourth. Â The play finished the day's scoring at 41-27.

The Huskies will return to action on Sept. 19 with a 3 p.m. home date at Husky Stadium against Southwest Minnesota State University. Â This game is the annual Celebrate! Nate Meyer connected on his first TD passes of the season. Â He finished the game with three TD strikes and a 30-38-1 passing rate for 336 yards.
Matt HentgesMatt Hentges nabbed nine passes for 128 receiving yards and one TD to pass the SCSU receivers at AU.
Jameson Parsons and Sam Hartman both caught the first TD passes of their careers at SCSU on Sept. 12. Â Parsons ended his day at WR with six receptions for 96 yards, while Hartman had one catch in the game.
SCSU only had 89 yards rushing in the game, while Ledell White paced the club with 15 carries for 48 yards. Â Jaden Huff had one rushing TD and 41 yards on 12 carries. Â Huff currently leads the Huskies this fall with three rushing TDs.
SCSU allowed 136 yards of rushing in the game and gave up 399 passing yards in the game. Â Augustana outpaced the Huskies in the game 399-336 in the total offense category.
Carvel Graham was SCSU's top defender with eight solo tackles and 10 total tackles. Â Craig Szymanski had seven tackles in the game along with 2.5 tackles for a loss.
An offensive showcase, SCSU and Augustana only had to punt the ball one time apiece in the game. Â In addition, there was only one quarterback sack registered in the contest by Augustana.
The 128 yards receiving is a new single-game career high for Matt Hentges. Â His previous career-high was eight receptions for 127 yards vs. Northern State in 2014.
In the all-time series vs. Augustana, the Huskies still own a 21-15 series lead dating back to 1950.
