SCSU Football To Host Southwest Minnesota State on Sept. 19

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University football team (1-1, 0-0 NSIC) returns home to Husky Stadium to host Southwest Minnesota State (2-0, 0-0 NSIC) for the Celebrate! St. Cloud State game on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m.
SCSU will be playing against Southwest Minnesota State for the 18th time in a series that started in 1970. The Huskies currently own a 16-1 series lead and have won the last five meetings with the Mustang. The last time these two teams played, SCSU charted a 49-35 victory in Marshall, Minn. during the 2013 season. St. Cloud State last played and defeated Southwest Minnesota State at Husky Stadium by a 24-6 score during the 2010 season. The Huskies sport a perfect 9-0 record in home games against SMSU. The two teams played annually from 1970-1982 then played a single game in 1984 before the series was discontinued until the 2010 season.

SCSU lost a 41-27 game on the road in South Dakota to Augustana on Sept. 12. Junior quarterback Nate Meyer had an impressive individual performance with his first three touchdown passes on the season while completing 30-of-38 passes for 336 yards. Junior receiver Matt Hentges was the recipient of nine of those passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. The Husky offense held the ball for nearly 36 minutes and converted 9-of-12 third downs, but SCSU's defense was unable to slowdown Augustana's potent offensive attack in the loss. The St. Cloud State defense was led by sophomore defensive back Carvel Graham's 10 stops with eight being solo efforts. Sophomore linebacker Craig Szymanski had seven tackles for SCSU including 2.5 tackles for loss in the contest.

The Huskies hit the road and travel to Warrior Stadium to take on Winona State (1-1) on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2:30 p.m.
