ST CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State softball team (7-4) fell in a 3-2 decision to Fort Hays State University (3-6) on Saturday, Feb. 20, on the third day of the Kelly Laas Invitational.

Senior Senna Franscesconi (2-2) took the loss for the Huskies in going 5.1 innings pitched with three runs allowed and three strikeouts. Junior Megan Hedstrom came in relief for SCSU and threw 1.2 scoreless innings. FHSU's Paxton Duran went the distance for the Tigers in allowing two runs, walking one and registering 11 strikeouts.

SCSU was limited to three hits in the game, but all were extra base knocks. FHSU racked up six hits and four walks for 10 base runners.

The Huskies took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on freshman Morgan Emmans first career home run.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth when the Tigers struck for two runs. Kylie Strand doubled to start the frame and scored the team's first run on Chermayne Yago's triple to right center. Yago came into score the second run on a sacrifice fly from Duran to left field to give FHSU a lead they would not reliquish.

The Tigers add a big insurance run in the sixth inning. Claudia Vazquez reached on a one-out double and scored on Samantha Villarreal's single through the right side.

The Huskies drew a run closer and cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame as freshman Jaiden Lund reached on a one-out triple to right center and scored on junior Alyssa Coletto's sacrifice fly to right field.

St. Cloud State continues play in the Kelly Laas Invitational and plays against Emporia State (6-6) at 10 a.m. on Feb. 21 and finishes the tournament against No. 16 Missouri Western (5-3) later that afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
