Softball Falls to Emporia State and Missouri Western On Final Day of Kelly Laas Invitational

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University softball team (7-6) dropped two games on the final day of the Kelly Laas Invitational. The Huskies fell to Emporia State by a score 1-0 and then to No. 16 Missouri Western by a 3-0 margin.
Game One (Emporia):
St. Cloud State pitcher Megan Hedstrom (Palatine, Ill.) pitched seven innings for the Huskies. Hedstrom gave up three hits, walked three, and struck out three batters.
Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Rebecca Harps (Yucaipa, Calif.) each finished two for three at the plate.
The Huskies recorded seven hits, while the Hornets finished with three hits. ESU scored their only run in the top of the seventh as Marly Carmona singled up the middle allowing Cassidy Berry to score the game's only run.
Game Two (Missouri Western):
Alyssa Coletto (Aurora, Ill.) led the Huskies with two hits.
Senna Francesconi (Schomberg, Ontario) pitched five innings for St. Cloud State. Francesconi gave up eight hits, walked two, and stuck out three batters. Kate Kopeck (Lumsden, Sask.) pitched the final two innings. Kopeck stuck out two batters.
In the first inning, Taylor Hamilton singled to allow Morgan Rathmann to score an unearned run for the Griffons. Hamilton singled in the third again, scoring Rathmann. The final run for Missouri Western came in the fifth when Kailey Green singled and advanced to second on the throw allowing Emilie Laliberte to score.
St. Cloud State will return to action March 3-9 as they travel to Clermont, Fla. The Huskies are set to compete in the 2016 National Training Center Spring Games. The Huskies play two games on the opening day. The program takes on Lake Erie at 9 a.m. and then Saint Anslem at 11 a.m. on March 3.
