
SCSU opens NSIC campaign with wins at Wayne State

The St. Cloud State University baseball teamopened its NSIC season with a 3-0 victory over Wayne State College on March 28 in game one of a doubleheader being played in Yankton, S.D. on March 28. SCSU came back in game two to earn a 5-0 win over Wayne State. The #1 ranked Huskies now own a 17-0, 2-0 NSIC record this season.
The Huskies scored their first run in the first inning when Zach Hoffmann singled to score Brandon Arnold. Zach Metzger then singled to center to score Kyle Lieser to give SCSU a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
SCSU added its third run in the third inning with a double by Zak Hoffman that scored Zach Hoffmann. Hoffmann had two hits in the game to pace SCSU.
Reese Gregory was the pitcher of record in the game with 10 strikeouts, five hits allowed and no runs allowed in the game. SCSU outhit the Wildcats 8-5 in the game. Gregory is now 4-0 on the season.
In game two, the Huskies scored two runs in the fourth inning to gain a 2-0 lead and then added two more runs in the sixth inning. SCSU capped the night with one more run in the eighth inning to make it 5-0.
SCSU outhit WSC 9-4 in the game as Arnold, Lieser and Davis all had two hits in the game. Lieser also had two RBIs in the game. Sheldon Miks improved to 5-0 on the season with eight innings of work, 10 strikeouts and four hits allowed. Tyler Gentz and Logan Spitzack finished the final inning on the mound for SCSU.
