SCSU baseball drops two against Augustana on April 17

The St. Cloud State University baseball team dropped both games of an NSIC doubleheader at home against Augustana University on April 17 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies opened the day with an 8-3 loss to Augustana University in game one and then ended the day with a 5-1 loss in game two. The Huskies move to a 28-4, 13-4 NSIC with the results of the day, while Augustana moves to 22-10, 13-3 NSIC and regains the top spot in the current NSIC standings. The Huskies and Minnesota Duluth both own 13-4 record in league play, while Minnesota Crookston is 10-3 in NSIC action.
In game one, the Huskies took a 3-2 in the second inning on a two-run homer by Zak Hoffman but they were unable to stop Augie's surge in the fourth and fifth innings. The Vikings scored two runs in the fourth inning and then came back in the fifth inning with three runs to ice the win. In the game, AU notched three home runs and out hits the Huskies 11-4.
Sheldon Miks was the pitcher of record for the Huskies with three strikeouts, eight runs allowed and nine hits allowed in 4.2 innings of work. David Kroger completed the game in relief for SCSU with two strikeouts and two hits in 2.1 innings of play.
SCSU hits in the game were charted by Brandon Arnold, Kyle Lieser, Hoffman and Zach Metzger. Ryan Hamilton pitched the complete game win for Augustana with four hits allowed, three runs allowed and four strikeouts.
In game two, SCSU posted one run in the first inning when Kyle Lieser scored on an RBI single off the bat of Karl Sorensen. That proved to be the only offense of the game for the Huskies as Augustana scored once in the second and then posted three runs in the fourth to go up 4-1. AU also notched a run in the sixth inning to seal the final score at 5-1.
Augustana outhit the Huskies 10-8 in the game. Kevin Bolder started the game and was the pitcher of record with five strikeouts, seven hits allowed and five runs allowed over 5.0 innings pitched. Dominic Austing added 4.0 innings of relieft work, which included an impressive eight strikeouts, three hits allowed and no runs allowed. Michael Letkewicz was the pitcher of record for Augie with 7.0 innings of work that featured five strikeouts, six hits allowed and only one run allowed. Zach Reeg completed the game in relief with three strikeouts and two hits allowed.
Sorensen paced SCSU's offense with three hits in the game and one RBI, while Reese Gregory had two hits including a double.
SCSU will continue its 2016 season on Wednesday, April 20 with an NSIC doubleheader at the University of Mary in Bismarck. Game one of the twinbill is slated to start at 1:30 p.m.
