St. Cloud State baseball home opener slated for April 6 vs. Minnesota State

The #1 St. Cloud State University baseball team's 2016 home opener is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. against NSIC rival Minnesota State University on Wednesday, April 6 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn. Â The two teams will play a doubleheader with the Huskies hoping to improve their undefeated 2016 record of 21-0, 6-0 NSIC. Â MSU will bring a 14-8, 5-3 NSIC record into the contests.
Fans should check back here at this website to see if there are any weather related changes to the game time, game date or location. Â Tickets for the games may be purchased at the gate on game day at Joe Faber Field. Â All SCSU students with a valid SCSU student ID card will be admitted FREE to these games...just show your ID card at the gate and you get in FREE.

SCSU BASEBALL NEWS AND NOTES:
- SCSU's Zach Hoffmann was named the NSIC Player of the Week and Kevin Bolder was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Week for their work in SCSU's four-game sweep of Southwest Minnesota State on April 3-4.
- St. Cloud State owns a perfect 21-0, 6-0 NSIC record this spring and are currently ranked number one in the nation in all of the Division II national polls (as of April 4). This includes number rankings from Collegiate Baseball, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Perfect Game and D2 Baseball.
- The Huskies recently gained a four-game sweep of NSIC rival Southwest Minnesota State University on April 3-4 in Marshall, Minn. SCSU outscored SMSU by a 61-19 margin in the four games led by first baseball Zach Hoffmann, who batted .706 in the series with 12 hits, 7 runs, 10 RBIs and 3 home runs.
- As a team, SCSU is batting an impressive .396 this season and the Huskies have outhit their opponents 311-145 in 2016. SCSU has also outscored its opponents 248-77 this season.
- The Huskies' 21-game win streak this year is just two wins shy of SCSU's team record 23-game win streak set at the start of the 2015 season.
- SCSU will have a chance to equal that streak when it comes back to St. Cloud for the 2016 home opener at Joe Faber Field against Minnesota State on Wednes Upper Iowa in a pair of NSIC twin bills on April 9-10 at beautiful Joe Faber Field on St. Cloud's west side. Both doubleheaders will begin at Noon.
- In the latest NCAA Division II stat rankings (as of April 3), the Huskies ranked first in the nation for batting average (.396), first for doubles per game (3.37), scoring (11.4 runs per game) and slugging percentage (.616). Â
- Freshman Judd Davis continues to pace the Huskies at the plate with a .547 batting average, which includes 29 hits and 19 runs in 53 at bats.
- Outfielder Karl Sorensen leads SCSU with 35 hits, 29 RBIs and 56 total bases this year, while Zach Hoffmann has 34 hits, 28 RBIs and 54 total bases.
- On the mound, Sheldon Miks is SCSU's top gun win with a 0.74 ERA in 36.1 innings of work. He leads SCSU with a 5-0 record and 38 strikeouts.
- Senior All-American Reese Gregory continues his legendary SCSU career in 2016. He is 3-0 this season with 32 strikeouts and a 2.35 ERA. He is also SCSU's top DH with a .387 batting average and 24 hits at the plate. He is tied for the team home run lead with five this season along with Zak Hoffman.
- Gregory owns the team record for most career saves with 23. He is just four wins away from the team record of 32 career wins and he already owns the team record for most career pitching appearances with 69 and most games finished with 47 from 2013-16.  Of note, Gregory has 219 career strikeouts and is within striking distance of the team record held by Logan Birr (274 from 2009-12).
- Coach Pat Dolan is in his ninth season with the Huskies. His career record at SCSU stands at 341-109-1. The Huskies have 40 or more games in a season four times during the Dolan era, including a school record 54 wins (54-5) in 2015. Â
- The Huskies are the defending NSIC champions after winning the regular season crown in 2015 with a 31-3 record. SCSU also won the NSIC postseason tournament and were the number one seed at the NCAA Division II Central Regional in 2015.
- Under the direction of Coach Dolan, the Huskies have earned NCAA Division II tournament bids in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015. SCSU has finished as the runner-up at the NCAA DII Central Region tournament in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
