St. Cloud State Baseball 2016 NCAA DII Central Regional Notebook

The St. Cloud State University baseball team (42-8, 23-8 NSIC) will begin play in the 2016 NCAA Division II Central Regional with a 5:00 p.m. showdown against Minnesota State University (34-16, 24-9 NSIC) on Thursday, May 19. Â The #1 seeded Huskies will host the tournament, which run through Monday, May 23 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn. Â Minnesota State University is the #8 seeded team in the tournament.
Tickets for the regional may be purchased at the gate and ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for students and $25 for a regional all-session pass.
The other teams in the eight-team tournament include #2 seeded Central Missouri, #3 seeded Minnesota Duluth, #4 seeded Arkansas Monticello, #5 seeded Missouri Western, #6 seeded Emporia State and #7 seeded Southwestern Oklahoma State. Of note, KVSC FM 88.1 (www.kvsc.org) is scheduled to provide live audio coverage of all SCSU games in the tournament.
This marks the eighth time that SCSU has advanced to the NCAA tournament since 1971 (1971, 1991, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016).
This marks the sixth time since 2010 that the Huskies have advanced to the NCAA Central Regional tournament.
SCSU has finished as the runner-up at the NCAA Central Regional in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015 under the leadership of head coach Pat Dolan.
SCSU has served as the host for the NCAA Division II Central Regional in 2011, 2015 and 2016 (and have been the number one seed in each of those seasons.
SCSU competed in the NAIA tournament in 1969, 1958 and 1957. Â The Huskies placed third at the NAIA national tournament in 1969 and 1958.
SCSU is 81-30 in the all-time series against Minnesota State. Â In 2016, SCSU scored a 5-1 win over the Mavericks at Joe Faber Field on April 6, which was the lone meeting between these two teams in this spring. Â Last year, SCSU eliminated MSU from regional play with a 5-4 win at the Central Regional in St. Cloud on May 16. Â In previous years, SCSU lost in the regional title game to MSU in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

In action against the other Regional squads this season, SCSU was 2-0 against UMD. Â The Huskies scored a 5-4 and 3-2 twinbill sweep against the Bulldogs on May 4 at Joe Faber. Â SCSU also posted a 2-1 win over Central Missouri on Feb. 7 in Houston, Tex. Â Sheldon Miks had 12 strikeouts in that contest.
In the all-time series, SCSU is 34-16 against UMD and 4-1 against Central Missouri.
In the all-time series against Missouri Western, SCSU is 7-10 and the last time the Huskies played Missouri Western was a 5-3 loss in 2013 at the regional.
Our records indicate that SCSU has not played Arkansas Monticello, Southwestern Oklahoma State or Emporia State. Â So any meetings with these teams would be a first for the Huskies.
SCSU leads the country NCAA DII teams with a .371 team batting average.
SCSU also leads all DII teams with an average of 2.84 doubles per game and a .627 slugging percentage.
SCSU ranks third in the nation with 1.84 homers per game and second with a scoring rate of 9.9 runs per game.
SCSU ranks fifth in the nation with a .436 on base percentage.
Judd Davis leads all D2 batters this season with a .474 batting average and he also leads the nation with a .564 on base percentage.
Reese Gregory ranks fourth in the nation with a .875 slugging percentage and seventh in the nation with 20 homers (.41 home runs per game).
Sheldon MIks' strikeout-to-walk ratio of 18.00 ranks first in the nation among DII pitchers. Â He also leads the country among DII pitchers with a .46 walks allowed per nine innings average.
Gregory has already set a team record with 20 home runs in 2016. Â His slugging percentage of .875 would also set a new team record. Â He has 147 total bases this season, which ranks third in the team records and 62 RBIs, which ranks 5th in the team records. Â He owns the team's career save record with 24 and is fourth in the team career records with 30 career wins and 231 career strikeouts.
SCSU has already set a team record this season with 92 home runs and 142 doubles.
SCSU's team batting average of .371 in 2016 is on track to break the school record. Â The current record of .351 was set in 2015. Â The Huskies' own a .627 slugging percentage in 2016, which would break the exisiting team record of .540 set in 2010.
SCSU has scored 493 runs this season, which is on track to break the team record of 511 runs set in 2010.
SCSU has 654 hits this season, while the team record of 707 hits was set in 2015.
SCSU has posted 454 RBIs this season, which is closing in the on the team record of 462 RBIs set in 2010.
Brandon Arnold ranks second in the team records with 71 stolen bases and 4th with 174 career runs.
Zak Hoffman ranks third in the team records with 33 career homers. Â He needs one more homer to tie the team record of 34 set by Joey Benke in 2008-12 and Mike McKinney in 1996-99.
Zach Hoffmann ranks fourth in the team records with 231 career hits, 48 career doubles and 153 career RBIs. Â Zak Hoffman ranks fifth in the team records with 152 career RBIs.
Pat Dolan has been at SCSU since 2008 with a 362-117-1 record with the Huskies. Â His squads have won NSIC regular season crowns in 2015 and 2013. Â SCSU has also won the NSIC tournament title in 2011, 2015 and 2016. Â SCSU has gained NCAA tournament bids in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016 during the Dolan era. Â SCSU has been the #1 seed at the regional in 2011, 2015 and 2016 under Dolan's watch and his squads have finished as the regional runner-up in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
