#3 SCSU Baseball to host #16 Minnesota Duluth on May 4

The final regular season home games on the 2016 St. Cloud State University schedule will feature two of the nation's top NCAA Division II baseball programs at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn. on Wednesday, May 4.
The #3 ranked Huskies (34-6, 19-6 NSIC) will play #16 ranked Minnesota Duluth (33-9, 26-4 NSIC) in a league doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. Â Tickets for the games will be available at the Joe Faber Field box office and all SCSU students with a valid SCSU ID card will be admitted FREE to these two games.
The Huskies will be looking for victories against the Bulldogs if they hope to maintain their chances of defending their NSIC regular season title from 2015. Â Check out the links below for access to live video from these games along wth live stats.
The Huskies improved to 34-6, 19-6 NSIC with a 4-2 record in league games last week against Bemidji State and Northern State.
On April 27, the Huskies posted a 4-2 and 11-2 sweep at Bemidji State. Â On April 30 and May 1, the Huskies were 2-2 against Northern State.
Rookie second baseman Judd Davis paces SCSU this season with a .440 batting average.
Reese Gregory tied a team record last week by hitting his 15th home run of the season on May 1. Â He ties the team record of 15 homers set by Zak Hoffman in 2015. Â SCSU has already broken the team record for home runs this season. Â SCSU currently has 70 home runs as a team in 2016.
The Huskies currently own an impressive .377 team batting average in 2016. Â The current team record for best batting average in a season is .351 set in 2015.
Karl Sorensen leads the club this year with 61 hits, while Gregory leads the team with 50 RBIs.
Cal Giese
Giese charted a 2-0 record over the last week, which featured 13 strikeouts, seven hits allowed and a 0.00 ERA. Â In relief, Giese pitched one inning in SCSU's 11-2 victory at Bemidji State on April 27. Â He had one strikeout and allowed no hits in the game to gain the victory. Â Giese continued his success with a 7-0 complete game shutout on May 1 against Northern State. Â Â In the game on May 1, Giese had 12 strikeouts and allowed just seven hits and no runs in the game. Â Giese is 6-1 this season with 51 strikeouts in 36.2 innings of work.
Gregory posted a .362 batting average in six games played last week. Â He had eight RBIs, two home runs, eight hits, one double and three runs. Â He also charted 15 total bases with a .682 slugging rate. Â Gregory also posted a save on the pitching mound with 2.2 innings of relief work in SCSU's 4-2 victory over NSU on April 30. Â Gregory connected on a home run in SCSU's loss against NSU on April 30 and also had a two run home in SCSU's 7-0 win over NSU on May 1. Â The home run on May 1 was his 15th of the season, which ties a team record for most home runs in a season. Â He had three hits, two RBIs and a double in SCSU's 4-2 win over Bemidji State on April 27. Â Â He also had three hits and two RBIs in SCSU's 12-5 loss to NSU on April 30.
Zak Hoffman ranks third in the team records with 30 career homers. Â The SCSU home run record is held by Mike McKinney (1996-99) and Joey Benke (2008-12) with 34 homers apiece.
SCSU has scored 398 runs in 40 games played this season. Â The team record of 511 runs scored was set in 2010, when the Huskies averaged 8.8 runs per game. Â The Huskies are averaging 9.95 runs per game this season.
At the NCAA DII level, SCSU leads the nation with a .377 batting average. Â SCSU also leads all DII teams with an average of 2.83 doubles per game and a scoring average of 10.0 runs per game. Â SCSU ranks second in the nation wth a .630 slugging percentage and fourth in the nation with a .442 on base percentage. Â Reese Gregory ranks fourth in the nation with a .906 slugging percentage in 2016.
SCSU will complete its 2016 regular season with a pair of NSIC doubleheaders at Minot State University in Minot, N.D. on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7. Â The games on May 6 begin at 4 p.m. and the games on May 7 will start at 1 p.m.
