
Heptathlon Schedule For Heather Miller-Koch At Rio Olympics

RIO DE JANEIRO - Heather Miller-Koch, a former St. Cloud State University women's track & field and women's basketball athlete, will compete in the heptathlon at the Rio Olympics starting on Friday morning, Aug. 12.
Miller-Koch, who earned her ticket to the games with a second-place finish in the heptathlon at the 2016 United States Track & Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon on July 9-10, has her first event of the heptathlon, the 100m hurdles, on Friday morning at 7:35 a.m. She will compete in the 3rd heat on her personal and season-best time of 13.39.
It will be a busy first day for Miller-Koch with four of the seven events being contested. She competes in the high jump as part of Group B at 8:50 a.m. He personal and season-best mark in the event is a 1.81m.
The athletes will then take a break until the evening with the shot put beginning at 6:35 p.m. Miller-Koch is part of Group A and comes in with her personal and season-best mark of 14.13m.
The 200m will be the final event of the first day for Miller-Koch at 8:05 p.m. She is part of Group 3 with a personal and season-best of 23.65.
The heptathlon athletes resume competition on Saturday, Aug. 13, with the long jump, javelin throw and the 800m.
The heptathlon victory ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 14 at 8:15 p.m.
Miller-Koch is set to become the 13th former SCSU student to compete in the Olympics. Other former SCSU students to compete in the Olympics over the years include: Ann Govednik Van Steinburg  (1932 and 1936 Summer Games in swimming), Matt Cullen (2006 Winter Games in hockey), Bret Hedican (1992 and 2006 Winter Games in hockey), Mark Parrish (2006 Winter Games in hockey), Van Nelson (1968 Summer Games in men's track and field), Jim Hazewinkel (1968 and 1972 Summer Games in Wrestling), Dave Hazewinkel (1968 and 1972 Summer Games in Wrestling), Ryan Malone (2010 Winter Games in hockey), Andreas Nodl (2014 Winter Games in hockey for Team Austria), Bruce Thompson (1976 Summer Games in Wrestling), Tami Jameson (1992 Summer Games in Team Handball), Toni Jameson (1992 Summer Games in Team Handball).
At SCSU, Miller-Koch was the 2010 NCAA DII Pentathlon National Championship and was a 10-Time NCAA DII Track & Field All-American and a 15-Time NSIC Champion. She broke 10 SCSU School Records during her college career and set NSIC records in the pentathlon, indoor and outdoor triple jump, the heptathlon and outdoor long jump.  In 2010, Miller-Koch was named the 2010 USTFCCCA National Field Athlete of the Year.
