St. Cloud State Track & Field Readies for NSIC Outdoor Championships in Duluth

Huskies compete Friday and Saturday at Malosky Stadium on campus of Minnesota Duluth
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Track & Field travels to Duluth on Friday and Saturday for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Championships, hosted by Minnesota Duluth at Malosky Stadium. On Friday, running events start at 10 a.m. and field events start at 11 a.m. while on Saturday, field events begin at 10 a.m. with running events scheduled to start at 1:05 p.m. All-Conference performers will consist of the top three place winners in each event (including relays) from the conference meet.

St. Cloud State Track & Field tallied three event wins, nine top five finishes and nine personal bests in its final meet of regular season competition at the Meet of the UnSaintly, hosted by Hamline at Klas Field in St. Paul on May 1. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Freshman sprinter/jumper Zoe Klocksien (Cambridge, Minn.) picked up her first career event win after posting a new personal best in the high jump (1.56m/5-1.25), graduate sprinter/jumper Elena Martinez-Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain) won her first-ever triple jump with an outdoor best leap of 11.37m/37-3.75 and sophomore Lauren Woelfel (Becker, Minn.) won her second consecutive pole vault after clearing an outdoor best height of 3.59m/11-9.25. Martinez-Rodriguez also finished tied for second in the high jump with sophomore jumper/sprinter Kinsey Mohwinkle (Aplington, Iowa).
In her final regular season meet, senior jumper/sprinter Ava Wilmanns (Cedarburg, Wis.) posted a new personal best in the javelin throw (31.31m/102-8) and a new outdoor best in the long jump (5.00m/16-5). On the track, freshman sprinter Efe Ottah (Wednesbury, England) (25.07) and junior sprinter Jenna Marxhausen (Two Harbors, Minn.) (25.90) each ran new personal record times in the 200 meters, freshman distance runner Jocie Wheeler (Annandale, Minn.) clocked a new personal best in the 800 meters (2:38.34) and sophomore distance runner Abbygail Nunez (South St. Paul, Minn.) ran a new career best in the 1,500 meters

Graduate jumper Elena Martinez-Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain) won the high jump at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Indoor Championships on Feb. 27, becoming just the seventh athlete to win an event at the indoor NSIC Championships. She scored 14 of the team's 18.5 points in the meet including 10 points for winning the high jump.
It was the third week in a row and fifth time this season that Martinez-Rodriguez won a high jump. She became the first Husky to win an event at the indoor conference meet since Natalie Gottschalk (2015-19) won the pentathlon in 2018 and just the seventh Husky to ever win an event at the indoor meet. She also recorded four points after posting a new personal best in the triple jump (11.75m/38-6.75) to finish fifth in the event on Saturday (Feb. 28).

HUSKIES TO WATCH
Freshman sprinter Efe Ottah and sophomore pole vaulter Lauren Woelfel (Becker, Minn.) were named the preseason athletes to watch by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) ahead of the outdoor season.
Ottah, the Huskies track athlete to watch, competed in the 60, 200, 300 and 400 meters during her first collegiate indoor season. She was a member of the 4x400 relay team that finished in eighth place at the NSIC Indoor Championships after running a season best time of 4:03.90. It was her first time scoring at a conference championship.
"Efe has made a strong impression in her first year with our program," said third-year head coach Gabrielle Brown. "She shows up every day ready to work, brings great energy to practice, and is constantly looking for ways to improve. Her work ethic and willingness to learn have made her someone we're excited to watch continue developing throughout the outdoor season."
Woelfel, the Huskies field athlete to watch, competed in the pole vault during the indoor season. She won the event in two of the four meets she competed in, set a lifetime best in the event at the Snowshoe Open (Minnesota) on Feb. 20 (3.62m/11-10.5) and finished tied for fifth place at the NSIC Indoor Championships after clearing 3.61m/11-10 to score 3.5 points for the team. It was her first time scoring at a conference championship.
"Lauren made an immediate impact for us during the indoor season, scoring at the NSIC Championships while also competing in swim and dive," said Brown. "We're excited to see what she can do this outdoor season now that she's able to focus fully on track and continue building on the progress she showed indoors."

PRESEASON POLLING
St. Cloud State Track & Field was selected to finish 12th in the 2026 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by the league office on March 19. During the indoor season, the Huskies outperformed their preseason projection at the NSIC Indoor Championships by five places, finishing 10th at the meet. SCSU finished 14th of 14 teams at the 2025 NSIC Outdoor Championships.
"We're excited about the momentum our group is building," said third-year head coach Gabrielle Brown. "This team has shown a strong commitment to the process and continues to compete for one another. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Huskies build on the progress we made during the indoor season as we head into outdoor competition."
