
Football Picks Up 27-20 Victory Over Upper Iowa

Meyer's two favorite targets in the game were sophomore receiver John Pass and senior Jameson Parsons. Pass caught a career-high nine passes for 138 yards and the eventual game-winning 40-yard touchdown. Parsons caught a career-high 10 passes for 97 yards and two scores. Meyer completed 28 of 41 passes in the game.
The Huskies defense was able to force five turnovers in the game including a fumble recovery from junior linebacker Craig Szymanski in the final two minutes of the game to help seal the victory. The SCSU defense was led by Stuart Hamann's nine stops. Junior Gary Koehring racked up seven stops. Junior safety Carvel Graham had a pair of interceptions and pass breakup plus three tackles.
The Huskies were outgained 384 to 337 in the game, but the plus three turnover margin helped even the yardage difference. UIU's Dimitri Morales threw three touchdown passes to lead Peacocks offense. Â Adam Lytle picked up 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a tackle for loss for their defense.
The Peacocks scored first in the game at the 13:35 mark of the second quarter on the 10-yard touchdown pass from Morales to Trey McTaggart to make the score 7-0 after the made extra point from Brady Beuschel.

The Huskies scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive with Meyer connecting with Parsons on a nine-yard score to complete the nine play, 60-yard march with 9:45 remaining in the second quarter. The extra point was blocked to keep the score 7-6 Peacocks.
SCSU broke through at the end of the first half on Parsons' second touchdown reception of the game, this one from 28-yards out, to give the Huskies a 13-7 lead after the made extra point from senior Derek Witte with 22 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

The Peacocks tied the game on a Morales to Jarred Edmonds 52-yard connection midway through the third quarter. The UIU two-point conversion failed to keep the game knotted at 13 with 8:22 remaining in the third period.

The first career rushing touchdown from freshman Collin Radowicz broke the tie and gave SCSU a 20-13 advantage with 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter after the made extra point from Witte. The SCSU drive covered 7 plays and 33 yards.

The Huskies finally got a little breathing room and went up two scores as Meyer hooked up with Pass on a 40-yard touchdown. The Witte extra point from Witte was true to complete the five play, 59-yard drive and give SCSU a 27-13 lead.

The game again tightened to just one score as Morales connected with Edmonds on an 11-yard touchdown to put the score at 27-20 after the made extra point from Beuschel with 6:32 remaining in the contest, but the late Szymanski fumble recovery iced the game for the Huskies.
St. Cloud State now returns home to take on Minnesota State on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m. in the Celebrate! and Alumni Game at Husky Stadium.
