ST. CLOUD- The St. Cloud State baseball team (24-8, 15-5 NSIC) is gearing up for a key weekend of NSICÂ action as they prepare to travel to Minnesota Duluth April 11 for a pair of games followed by a pair of doubleheaders at rival Minnesota State on April 14-15.
The Huskies will travel north to Duluth to take on the Bulldogs (14-14, 9-7 NSIC) for the lone regular season doubleheader between the two teams. The Huskies won both outings last season, defeating the Bulldogs 3-2 and 5-4 at Joe Faber Field in regular season action. Historically, the Huskies hold a 34-16-0 edge over UMD since the teams started playing in 1977.Â
First pitch for the twin bill is slated for 1:30 p.m., weather permitting. Fans can follow along with the action by following live stats here or watching here.Â
Â
ATTENTION: Due to weather, the Huskies doubleheader against Minnesota State will now be held on April 13 beginning at 1:30, with a decision as to when to play the second set of games to come following the second game on April 13. The Huskies will then travel south to Mankato to take on the #21 Minnesota State Mavericks (24-5, 19-1 NSIC) for a pair of doubleheaders on April 14-15. The Mavericks and Huskies are jostling for position in the NSIC standings, and also the NCAA regional standings, making the four games critical for both teams.Â
Last season, SCSU and MSU split the season series, each winning a game a piece. The Huskies defeated the Mavericks 5-1 in the lone regular season meeting between the two. The Mavericks then dealt a 1-0 loss to the Huskies in the opening game of the NCAA Regional tournament, forcing the Huskies to battle in the losers bracket to regain their traction. Historically the Huskies trail MSU 82-131-0 in the all time series record, dating back to 1939.Â
Fans can follow all the action with live stats here. Â
The Huskies will return home April 22-23 for a packed weekend of baseball activities. April 22nd is designated as Alumni Day and a salute to the 2016 NSIC Championship team will be held. Â
