
Huskies set to travel to Crookston, host Winona State in big week of action

ST. CLOUD- The St. Cloud State baseball team (27-11, 18-8) has an exciting week ahead as they will travel to the University of Minnesota, Crookston on April 19 before heading back home to host Winona State April 22-23 at Joe Faber Field for a weekend of activities on and off the baseball diamond.Â
The Huskies will open their week at Minnesota, Crookston (18-20, 12-14 NSIC) for a pair of games against the Golden Eagles. The Huskies have historically enjoyed success when facing off with UMC, as they lead the all time series 26-1 in 27 games played since 2005.Â
Last season the Huskies and Golden Eagles only faced off once, meeting in the first game of the 2016Â NSICÂ Tournament that the Huskies would go on to win in front of their home crowd at Faber Field. The Huskies' had the hot bat in that game as they defeated UMC by a dominant 17-3 margin. In the last three games played between the two teams, the Huskies have won by at least a 13 run margin, winning 20-0, 15-2, and 17-3.Â

The Huskies will follow up their visit to Crookston by hosting Winona State (12-24, 12-14 NSIC) on April 22-23 as part of a jam packed weekend of fun at Joe Faber Field.Â
These games mark the first meeting of these two teams since 2014 when Winona ended the Huskies season in the NSIC tournament, winning 5-4. Winona State leads the all time series between the two teams 73-64 dating all the way back to 1938.Â
Games are slated to begin at 3 p.m. on April 22, with the doubleheader on Sunday scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.Â
The Huskies will also be hosting a slough of off the field activities for fans April 22-23.Â
April 22 marks this year's Alumni Night, with a special celebration of the 2016 NSIC Tournament Championship team scheduled as well. The 2016 NSIC baseball tournament championship team from St. Cloud State University will be saluted at this year's SCSU Baseball Alumni Day on Saturday, April 22.  The special salute will take place between innings of the SCSU-Winona State doubleheader, which will begin at 3 p.m. on Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn.Â
All former St. Cloud State baseball players are invited to come out for Alumni Day.  The day will include the doubleheader against NSIC rival Winona State along with a postgame social at the Ultimate Sports Bar and Grill in Waite Park, with a percentage of proceeds from food sales benefiting former Husky player and assistant coach Pete Pratt, who is suffering from several major health issues.
The 2016 Huskies charted an impressive 43-10 overall record and placed third in the NSIC regular season standings with a 23-8 record. Â In the conference tournament, which was hosted by the Huskies in St. Cloud, St. Cloud State rolled to a first place finish with a perfect 4-0 record that was capped by a 6-4 win over Concordia-St. Paul in the NSIC tournament title game.
On Sunday, April 23 St. Cloud State baseball, in partnership with the university's sports management (M.S.) program, will host "Bigger Than Baseball" Youth/Family Day during its doubleheader versus Winona State,

As part of the day's festivities, the SCSU is holding a food drive that will benefit the local Catholic Charities, whose food shelf provides food to people faced with missing meals in the St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Sartell, St. Augusta, and Waite Park communities. Fans coming to the games are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate.

At the game, fans will receive a team poster, which can be signed by members of the Huskies during the postgame, on-field autograph session that will take place following the conclusion of the second game of the doubleheader.

Those in attendance can also participate in one of the day's numerous planned activities, including Baseball Bingo, with the chance to win prizes from SCSU and its sponsors. Select fans will also be chosen to compete in on-field, between inning games and activities.
April 23 also marks Parent's Day at the ballpark, where families of SCSU players will be recognized for their support of the players.Â

Tickets for St. Cloud state baseball games can be purchased at the Joe Faber Field box office on game day. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for youth. SCSU students with a valid university ID will receive free admission.
