Eighth inning rally lifts Huskies to 5-4 win in game two

The St. Cloud State University baseball team used a two-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning of game two to gain a doubleheader split against visiting Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, April 7 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn. The Huskies charted a 5-4 win in game two, which evened the day after they lost the opener 8-5.
The split moves SCSU's record to 22-8, 14-5 NSIC, while Concordia-St. Paul moves to 17-13, 11-7 NSIC. The two teams will continue their weekend series at Joe Faber Field with a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 7. Fans can purchase tickets for the games at the gate on game day.
In the victory over CSP, the Huskies opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning. Bo Schmitz, who went 3-of-4 in the game, connected on a triple that scored Ethan Ibarra and Jordan Joseph. CSP rallied with three runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth inning before the Huskies closed the gap with a solo run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Mathew Meyer that scored Judd Davis.
Down 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, SCSU tied the game when Logan Swann scored on an RBI by Mitch Mallek. The Huskies then gained the winning run with a sacrifice fly by Ibarra that brought home Mallek.
In the game, SCSU and CSP both had 12 hits apiece. Davis and Joseph each had two hits apiece, while Schmitz had three hits and two RBIs. On the mound, Aaron Hammann pitched the first 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts to his credit. Kyle Boser gained the win in relief with 1.2 innings of work. He only allowed one hit and had two strikeouts. The game was iced with a save by Miles Nablo, who pitched the final inning.
