St. Cloud, Minn. –St. Cloud State's football team (3-1) would not let two lightning stoppages of play and a constant steady heavy rain prevent them from defeating Augustana (2-2) by a 26-14 score on Saturday evening, Sept. 23, at Husky Stadium.

Junior Gregory Lewis recorded 58 yards on the ground plus a touchdown to lead the offense. Junior John Pass caught four passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. Derek Kumerow recorded three catches for 40 yards. Redshirt freshman Joe Blando carried the ball 24 times for 45 yards. Redshirt freshman quarterback Justin Czech was 10 for 18 for 114 yards and a touchdown in his first career start. Sophomore Graham Miller led the defense for SCSU with five tackles, two stops for loss plus a 29-interception return for a touchdown. Senior Carvel Graham also picked off a pass, his second of the season, along with recording five tackles. Senior linebacker Gary Koehring also picked up an interception plus 1.5 stops for loss. Senior Brady Westart picked up five tackles and a half a sack plus four quarterback hurries. Freshman kicker Adam Stage connected on a pair of field goals including one from 46-yards out.

Augustana's Kyle Saddler threw for 198 yards and a touchdown to lead AU.

The Vikings picked up 16 first downs to the 12 for SCSU and outgained the Huskies 275 to 231 on offense, but SCSU was able to still control the ball and clock for 37:05 and scored the first 26 points of the game.

SCSU scored first on the 46-yard field goal from Stage to finish off a 10 play, 40-yard drive.

Miller's interception touchdown return from 29 yards accounted for the second score. The Stage extra point made the score 10-0 SCSU with 5:16 remaining in the first quarter.

The Huskies picked up their third score of the opening half on a Czech touchdown pass to Pass from 11 yards to complete a 14 play, 55-yard drive and make the score 16-0 with 8:14 remaining in the second quarter.

Stage connected on his second field goal of the game, this one from 22-yards out, to put the score at 19-0 with 8:14 remaining in the third quarter to complete an 11 play, 70-yard drive.

Lewis got into the scoring next as he rumbled in from six-yards out to complete a five play, 39-yard drive and make the score 26-0 SCSU after the made extra point from Stage with 12 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Augustana scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the final margin 26-14.

St. Cloud State football has a short week and will play a 7 p.m. contest against Minnesota Duluth on Thursday, Sept. 28, in Duluth that will be shown on the Midco TV.

Notes: Adam Stage has now made five field goals on the season and that is more than the team had the last two seasons combined…Gregory Lewis scored his fourth rushing touchdown of the season…SCSU came into the contest leading the NCAA in time of possession and finished just under their average of 38:14 with a 37:05 in the game against Augustana…The Huskies are now 22-15 all-time against Augustana.
