ST. CLOUD, Minn. – In a come-from-behind victory that featured an extensive array of power from the Huskies' offense, the St. Cloud State softball team (9-1) defeated the Fort Hays State Tigers (2-14) 6-4 on Sunday, Feb. 25 in the Husky Dome.
After a slow start offensively in the first four innings of Sunday's game, Libby Bingham was the spark that lit up the Huskies' bats with a double in the gap in the fifth inning. The double brought home two runs and the Huskies trailed 3-2 until Morgan Emmans entered the box with the bases loaded in the same inning. Emmans would give St. Cloud State a 6-3 lead after sending a grand-slam into the stands in the Husky Dome.
SCSU would hold on to the lead after allowing a lead-off homerun in the seventh inning.
Kylie Thomsen had a stellar performance in the circle, improving her record to 7-0 in her complete game performance for St. Cloud State. In her seven innings of work, Thomsen struck out two batters and only yielded two earned runs on six hits.
St. Cloud State returns to action on March 6th in Clermont, Florida. They begin their week-long trip in Florida with a double-header that begins at 9AM EST against Ferris State. Following, a 2 PM EST first pitch against the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
