Gameday Preview | Huskies and Cougars to Meet in Weekend Series in Sioux Falls

St. Cloud State and USF will face off at the Bird Cage, home of the Sioux Falls Canaries on Thursday and Friday.
Sioux Falls, SD – Coming off of their second consecutive series sweep, the St. Cloud State baseball team (13-6, 5-1 NSIC) will challenge the University of Sioux Falls Cougars (4-16, 4-6 NSIC) in a four-game set at 1:30 and 3:30 PM on Thursday, March 29 and Friday, March 30 at Sioux Falls Stadium.
The games were originally scheduled to be played in St. Cloud at Joe Faber Field, but inclement weather in the area pushed the games to Sioux Falls for the week.
SERIES PREVIEW
The Huskies combined for 27 runs in their Wednesday sweep over Northern State. Leading the charge for SCSU was Bo Schmitz who totaled nine RBI's on the day. The Huskies also totaled eight homeruns on the day, with seven of them coming in the second game alone. Reid Conlee, Aaron Hammann, Ethan Ibarra and Mitch Mallek each had one homerun while Bo Schmitz and Jordan Joseph each had two on the day. Kyle Boser improved his record to 3-2 on the season after picking up the win in game one, while Zach Siggelkow recorded his first career save in relief of Boser. In game two, Shannon Ahern went six innings and struck out three to improve his record to 4-0 on the year.
As a team, St. Cloud State leads the NSIC in team batting average (.340) and sits fourth in the conference in team ERA (4.39).
St. Cloud State is expected to start freshman, Trevor Koenig in game one and Aaron Hammann in game two on Thursday.

The Cougars enter the series after dropping three of four to Winona State last weekend, and splitting a mid-week with Southwest Minn. St. The Cougars' win in game one over the Mustangs came in dramatic fashion with a walk-off homerun by Brent Jarvis.
Offensively, USF is led by Josh Rehwaldt (.442), Rob Johnson (.328) and Dylan Gavin (.307). Brandon Roesler and Dylan Gavin are the two horses of the Cougars' staff, each having logged at least 27 innings so far.
As a team, USF is hitting .248 while their pitchers have an average ERA of 5.37.
Caeden Harris still leads the conference in batting average (.480) while USF's Josh Rehwaldt is third.

Last season, USF and SCSU split in their four-game set that was played in Sioux Falls, SD. On the first day off action, SCSU won by a score of 6-0 and 15-13. Cal Giese was the pitcher of record for SCSU in game one while Miles Nablo received the win out of the Huskies' bullpen in game two. The Huskies dropped two to USF in day two, losing 4-5 and 6-7.
In the past five seasons, SCSU is 6-2 in NSIC play against the Cougars.
