SCSU looks to win their fourth consecutive conference series on Friday.
GAME ONE SUMMARY (SCSU 10 | USF 5)
St. Cloud State once again struck first, scoring four runs in the first inning, then four more between the second and third innings to hold an 8-0 lead entering the fourth inning.
Mitch Mallek started the action with a two-run homerun to right field in the first inning, then Aaron Hammann and Jackson Goplen would each record a RBI sac-fly to put the score at 4-0 in favor of the Huskies in the first. Goplen would record another sac-fly to score Bo Schmitz in the second, while Ethan Ibarra and Jordan Joseph would record RBI's off of a single and a sac-fly. Goplen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the Huskies' eighth run across.
Sioux Falls would then break their silence with a solo shot to center field by Josh Rehwaldt. The score would remain 8-1 until the sixth inning. The Cougars would threaten late and score four runs in the top half of the sixth, but the rally would not be enough. SCSU went on to score two more in the bottom of the sixth after Caeden Harris doubled home Goplen, then Harris would steal third and score on a USF error at third base.
GAME TWO SUMMARY (SCSU 11 | USF 1)
A third inning hit parade by St. Cloud State ended up being the deciding factor in game two against Sioux Falls. The Huskies recorded eight straight hits which scratched across seven runs in the inning.
Isaac Matchinsky led the inning off with a double to right field, then was doubled home by senior, Bo Schmitz. Jordan Joseph would record the third straight hit and score Schmitz. Mitch Mallek would single to advance Joseph to third, then a failed pick-off attempt would push Joseph across and Mallek in scoring position. Jackson Goplen would then record the fifth consecutive hit which would score Mallek. Mathew Meyer recorded his fourth double of the year, then Caeden Harris smacked a single to score Goplen. Ethan Ibarra came to the plate with a 6-0 Husky lead and a hitting streak of seven to hold up, and he executed with a triple to left field which scored Harris and Meyer. Ibarra would eventually be thrown out at home trying to extend his triple into an inside-the-park homerun.
In the fourth, Jackson Goplen recorded his second triple of the season off of the center field wall, which would score two runs and put the Huskies up 10-0. Mathew Meyer then reached by an error and Goplen would score the Huskies' 11th run.
The Huskies could not ask much more out of Trevor Koenig's starting performance. The freshman went six strong innings, striking out four and only allowing one earned run on five hits.
Zach Iten also made an appearance in the seventh inning, striking out one and not allowing a hit or a run.
Jackson Goplen totaled four RBI's, while going 2-3 with a triple.
Ethan Ibarra brought in two RBI's and also recorded his second triple of the season.
Bo Schmitz, Jordan Joseph, Mathew Meyer and Caeden Harris each recorded one RBI as well.
