Football hosts CSP in Hall of Fame weekend
10/3/2019 12:30:00 PM | Football
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – The last two weekends have not gone the way the St. Cloud State University football team would like. The Huskies dropped two close games to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North opponents, falling by less than six points to both #13 Minnesota-Duluth and Northern State. This Saturday, St. Cloud State looks to get back on track as it hosts Concordia-St. Paul at 1 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
The Huskies look to get back on track in their first crossover game of the season, as the Golden Bears hail from the NSIC South, where they currently rank second behind the unbeaten and nationally ranked Minnesota State Mavericks. Live stats and video will be available during Saturday's game, and score updates will also be made to the team's official Twitter page (@SCSUHuskiesFB).

Here are the five things to know before kickoff:
6 – This will be the sixth meeting all-time between the Huskies and Golden Bears, with St. Cloud State leading the all-time record 5-0. In fact, in five meetings, the Huskies have outscored Concordia-St. Paul 194-57, including their most recent 56-21 victory back in 2017.
7 – During halftime, St. Cloud State will recognize seven individuals who will be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame over the weekend. The Hall of Fame Class of 2019 includes women's basketball's Dawn Anderson, women's golf/hockey's Kerry Brodt Wethington, softball's Brooke Gentzler, wrestling's Phil Herbold, volleyball's Cami Selbitschka Enke, and women's swimming and diving's Marissa Tieszen Rustad and Ruth Nearing. This will mark the 31st Hall of Fame class since it was formed in 1982 and will bring the membership up to 202 individuals and three Husky teams.
50/8.5 – It will be significantly harder for St. Cloud State's offense to score on the Golden Bears defense than in the past, as Concordia-St. Paul boasts two of the top defensive players in the NSIC this season. Sophomore linebacker Jake Portz is currently having a breakout season for the Golden Bears, as he leads the conference in total tackles (50) and ranks second in tackles per game (10.0). The Huskies real nemesis may be Concordia-St. Paul defensive lineman Chris Garrett, who has wreaked havoc on offensive lines this season. The 6'4, 230 pound lineman leads the conference in tackles for loss (8.5) and third in sacks with a grand total of four this season.
13.0 – St. Cloud State is no slouch either when it comes to defense, as the team allows an average of just 13.0 points per game, a number that ranks second in the NSIC this season. Thanks to four outstanding games, the Huskies defense currently ranks ninth in the nation in that same category and possess the No. 9 rush defense, holding opponents to an average of 63.8 rush yards per game.
34 – The yellow flags were flying in St. Cloud State's loss to Northern State last weekend, as the two teams took a combined 17 penalties for 185 yards. The Huskies will need to be much cleaner this weekend as they take on perhaps the cleanest team in the NSIC and nation. Through four games, the Golden Bears have committed just 20 penalties for 136 yards, the lowest rate in both the NSIC and all of Division II.
