Pat Dolan holds the second most all-time wins as a head coach in SCSU program history

OMAHA, Neb. - In the first game of their NSIC season, the #6/7 St. Cloud State baseball team (13-2, 1-0 NSIC) defeated the Minnesota State Mavericks 7-1 on Sunday, March 17th at Millard North HS.

The Huskies took an early 5-0 lead in the first inning after Najee Gaskins was hit by pitch to lead off the game, then Mathew Meyer followed with a walk to put two runners on for Mitch Mallek. Mallek would single home Gaskins to take a 1-0 lead, then Lenny Walker would continue his hot streak with a single through the middle to load the bases with no outs. A pair of singles from Jordan Joseph and Toran Shahidi would score two more runs, extending SCSU's lead to three.

After Mankato was able to record their first out of the inning, Dylan Haskamp would knock a hard ground ball deep in the hole to score Walker, then Ethan Ibarra capped off the inning with a single through the left side to put St. Cloud State on top 5-0.

Dominic Austing (3-0) gave the Huskies another quality start on the bump, striking out ten and only allowing one earned run while scattering four hits over six innings of work. Austing did not allow a walk in the contest, and did not yield a run until the sixth.

The Huskies would build on their lead in the fourth after Mitch Mallek recorded his second RBI of the game that scored Gaskins to put SCSU up 6-1. Minnesota State would break their silence in the sixth inning after pushing across one run on two hits and one error.
St. Cloud State responded with a lead-off double courtesy of Mitch Mallek in the seventh before advancing to third and scoring on two separate wild pitches to make it a 7-1 ballgame in favor of SCSU.
Matt Butler provided three shutout innings in relief of Austing to notch his first save of the year. The senior struck out two, walked none and only allowed two hits in the appearance.

Mitch Mallek was 4-4 with two RBI's at the plate while recording a single, double, and a triple to put him a home run shy of hitting for the cycle against MSU.

St. Cloud State head coach Pat Dolan recorded his 450th career win at SCSU in the 7-1 victory over Mankato. Dolan holds the second most wins in program history by a head coach.

The Huskies and Mavericks will return to action for a double-header that starts at 10 AM on Monday, March 18 in Omaha.
