#4 St. Cloud State Travels for Twinbill against Winona State in Mauston, WI

The Huskies won their first NSIC series of the season against Minnesota State on Monday.
MAUSTON, Wis. - The #4 St. Cloud State baseball team (14-3, 2-1 NSIC) resumes action on Thursday, March 21st against the Winona State Warriors (8-6, 2-1 NSIC) at the Woodside Sports Complex. Thursday's NSIC twin-bill will start at 1:30 PM, with the second game to follow at approximately 3:30 PM.Â

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
WSU is coming off of a 2-1 series win over the Northern State Wolves and has won two of their last six games. As a team, the Warriors are hitting .278 and are led by Sam Kohnle's .438 average. The junior first baseman also leads the team in hits (21), runs scored (13), doubles (6), and has tallied nine RBI's while only striking out twice through 48 at-bats.Â
Dillon Wittaker (2-2) has recorded a team-high of 24 innings of work on the mound while holding a 4.50 ERA in three starts and four appearances. The right-hander also leads the team in strikeouts with 21 and is holding opponents to a .290 batting average. Wittaker's last appearance came against Northern State where he went seven innings, only allowing two runs on five hits and striking out seven.Â
Winona State is expected to start Kyle Gendron and Austin Savary against the Huskies. Gendron is a freshman right-hander who is the only Warrior pitcher with more than ten innings pitched that did not throw last weekend against Northern State. The freshman is 1-1 through 12.2 innings pitched over one start and two appearances. Gendron hasÂ
recorded three strikeouts while also having walked three, while having gone five innings and seven 2/3 innings in his two outings this season.Â

In 142 meetings dating back to 1938, Winona State leads the all-time series 68-74 while the Huskies have won six of their last nine meetings.Â
PRIOR MEETINGS
SCSU's regular season series against Winona State was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions last spring, but their last meeting came in the first round of the 2018 NSIC Tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. In the playoff contest, SCSU recorded a NSIC record 23 runs scored in the 23-0 victory. After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings, SCSU posted a nine spot and a ten spot in the fifth and seventh innings while shutting out the Warriors at the plate.Â
Dominic Austing only fired 53 pitches in his five shutout innings while Bo Schmitz posted two homeruns and seven RBI's.Â
In 2017, SCSU took three of four from the Warriors. Austin Caspersen, Zach Siggelkow and Aaron Hammann each notched wins on the bump for the Huskies while Mathew Meyer collected three RBI's in the series.Â
