#4 St. Cloud State and Upper Iowa Square Off in Midweek Twin-Bill

SCSU is coming off of their third straight NSIC series win
FAYETTE, IA - The #4 St. Cloud State baseball team (19-3, 7-1 NSIC) continues conference play on Wednesday, March 27 against the Upper Iowa Peacocks at 12:00 PM CT and 2:00 PM CT at Robertson Woods Field on the campus of Upper Iowa University. SCSU is coming off of their third consecutive series win and second straight series sweep after taking down Winona State in their midweek, then sweeping Sioux Falls last weekend.Â

SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS
Upper Iowa enters the series 6-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play after splitting with U-Mary in their midweek, then dropping two of three to Northern State last weekend. The Peacock's lineup features three bats over the .400 mark, with Zackary Cain leading the way at .444. Cain holds a team high of 24 hits while having recorded four doubles and one homerun. Alexander Morales (2-1) holds a 2.50 ERA and has tossed 18 innings through four appearances and three starts for UIU on the mound. Duncan Snider (1-1) has recorded four starts and owns a 3.00 ERA through 21 frames tossed while having struck out a team-high of 31 batters. The only other Peacock who has recorded more than two starts is Colin Lacey (0-4). Lacey owns a 12.86 ERA over 14 innings and four starts.Â

2018: SCSU wins series 2-1 (8-5, 5-10, 5-4)
The Huskies' games with Upper Iowa in 2018 ended with SCSU winning the series 2-1, but not without some added adventure. After waiting for over a day to play in Fayette due to inclement weather conditions, the first game of the series was suspended in the eleventh inning due to a lack of light on the field. SCSU and UIU traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to finish the first game, then play games two and three on the campus of Mount Mercy University. SCSU put up three runs on two hits in the 12th inning the next day to take an 8-5 lead, then Kyle Boser threw the 12th to earn the save. SCSU then rolled Boser in as the game two starter where he threw 3 2/3 innings and struck out six whie only allowing two earned runs. The Huskies won the series finale 5-4 after using a five-run fifth inning to their advantage.Â
In the last five seasons, SCSU took three of four in both 2017 and 2016, then swept the Peacocks in 2015. Â
IN THE POLLS
St. Cloud State received a #4 rank in the NCBWA's NCAA DII national poll for the second consecutive week. The Huskies earned 418 points and two first place votes. SCSU also earned a #6 rank from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper for the second consecutive week. SCSU also earned eight first place votes and 89 points to take the top spot in this week's Central Region poll.Â
