#4 St. Cloud State Sweeps Upper Iowa, Combines for 32 Runs on 31 Hits in Two Games

The Huskies have won each of their last four NSIC series with three of those victories being sweeps.
FAYETTE, IA - The #4 St. Cloud State baseball team (21-3, 9-1 NSIC) claimed their fourth consecutive series win in conference play with victories of 19-0 and 13-5 over Upper Iowa.Â
Game 1, #4 SCSU 19 | UIU 0
After holding a 5-0 lead through three innings, the Huskies' offense exploded for an 11 run fourth inning where each member of SCSU's starting line-up scored at least once. The Huskies added three more over the course of two innings before stranding the bases loaded in the seventh.Â
Cal Giese (2-1) gave the Huskies four scoreless frames, striking out four and only allowing two hits. Riley Ahern relieved Giese in the fifth, posting one strikeout and only allowing one hit. Zach Siggelkow relieved Ahern with a scoreless sixth where he struck out a pair, then Zach Iten closed the seventh with two strikeouts as well.Â
Toran Shahidi and Mathew Meyer each recorded four RBI's while Meyer was 4-6 with a homerun.Â
Aaron Hammann also recorded a homerun while posting two RBI's. Ethan Ibarra, Caeden Harris and Mitch Mallek each charted two RBI's in the Huskies' seventh straight victory.Â
Game 2, #4 SCSU 13 | UIU 5
Upper Iowa held their only lead of the day after gaining a 1-0 advantage in the first, but the Huskies would bounce back by scoring in six of the next seven innings. SCSU held their first lead of the game after scoring two in the third, then would post one in the fourth and record back-to-back two-run innings before a five-run seventh inning would give SCSU a 12-3 lead heading into the eighth. The Huskies scored their 13th run of the game and 33rd of the day on a Peacock balk.Â
Matt Osterberg went four innings and struck out eight. Shannon Ahern provided 2 1/3 innings in relief and was the winning pitcher of record on Wednesday. The junior southpaw struck out five and only allowed one earned run on three hits. Matt Butler contributed 1 2/3 scoreless frames with two strikeouts before Ryan Wesely and Dylan Haskamp slammed the door in the ninth.Â
Mitch Mallek finished 3-4 with 4 RBI's and a homeun while Najee Gaskins knocked in 2 RBI's on three hits. Aaron Hammann finished 3-6 with 2 RBI's as well.
