St. Cloud State baseball to open 2020 season at MIAA/GLVC Crossover Tournament

The St. Cloud State University baseball team, which was picked sixth in the preseason NCBWAÂ DII Central Region preseason poll, will open its 2020 season with four games at the MIAA/GLVCÂ Crossover Tournament on Feb. 14-17 at Warren Turner Field in Joplin, Mo.
The Huskies will open the tournament on Feb. 14 with a 7:00 p.m. game against Washburn University. On the second day of the tournament, SCSU will match up against Northwest Missouri State Unversity at 7:00 p.m. on Feb. 15. SCSU will then play host Missouri Southern State University (ranked #8 in the NCBWA regional poll) on Feb. 16 at 2:00 p.m., before wrapping up the tournament on Feb. 17 with a 10:00 a.m. game against Missouri Western University.

The Huskies finished the 2019 season with a stellar 41-14 overall record and were 26-8 in the always rugged Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.Â
SCSU will be looking to continue its tradition of success in 2020. The Huskies have been impressive during the Pat Dolan era, which includes five consecutive NCAA tournament bids and nine NCAA tournament bids since 2010. SCSU has also notched 11 consecutive seasons with 30-plus wins and seven 40-plus win seasons since 2010, including a 41-14, 26-8 NSIC record in 2019.
The NCBWA poll committee, which produces one of the most respected NCAA Division II college baseball polls in the country each week during the season, also named its 2020 DII All-Central Region team that includes SCSU senior outfielder Lenny Walker, who was named to the Preseason All-Region Second Team.
The Huskies will be led in 2020 by Walker, who batted .315 with 65 hits in 46 RBIs along with infielder Aaron Hammann, who notched 33 hits and 20 RBIs in 2019. The Huskies' roster will feature several top pitching veterans including Northwoods League All-Star junior Trevor Koenig, senior Blake Flint (7-2 with 66 strikeouts in 2019, junior Matthew Osterberg (5-2 with 56 strikeouts in 2019) and crafty senior Shannon Ahern (55 strikeouts with a 2.91 ERA in 2019). SCSU will be looking to replace several starters from the 2019 roster but a wealth of incoming transfers and skilled freshmen should help St. Cloud State add another winning chapter to its record book in 2020.
