SCSU baseball rallies to gain 6-2 victory in season opener over Washburn

The St. Cloud State University baseball team (1-0, 0-0 NSIC) opened its 2020 season on Feb. 14 with a come from behind 6-2 victory over Washburn University in the first game of the MIAA/GLVC tournament in Joplin, Mo.
The Huskies trailed 2-0 in the contest before exploding for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to gain the upper hand in the contest. SCSU then added one more run in the seventh inning to ice the game at 6-2.
In the game, Washburn outhit the Huskies 8-6. Shannon Ahern was the pitcher of record for SCSU with 5.0 innnings of work in relief during the game. He finished the game with one run allowed, eight strikeouts and five hits allowed. Matt Osterberg started the game for SCSU with 4.0 innings of work, which included one run allowed, three hits allowed and six strikeouts.
At the plate, SCSU was paced by Josh Hill with two hits and one run scored and Jake Shusterich with two RBIs, one hit and one run in the game. Shusterich and Mauro Owens each had a double in the game for SCSU.
SCSU will continue its season on Feb. 15 with a 7:00 p.m. game at the MIAA/GLVC tournament against Northwest Missouri State University.
