
SCSU baseball nabs two victories at US Bank Stadium on Feb. 25

In game one, the Huskies posted a 9-0 shutout and returned in game two to gain a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Wolves. SCSU will continue its stay at U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings, with a non-conference doubleheader on Feb. 26 against Concordia-St. Paul. The games will start at 10 a.m. and fans should enter U.S. Bank through the Pentair gate on 6th Ave. Admission is $5.

The Huskies and NSU battled through two scoreless innings in game one, before the Huskies posted two runs in the third inning to gain a 2-0 lead. The Huskies extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning before exploding for six runs in the seventh inning to ice the victory. Matt Osterberg was the winning pitcher for SCSU with a complete game effort that included eight strikeouts and just three hits and no runs allowed in seven innings.
At the plate, SCSU outhit the Wolves 7-3. Drew Bulson tallied two hits in the game and had three RBIs, while Tyler Hajjar had two hits and two runs for SCSU. Mauro Owens (two RBIs), Matt Quade, Lenny Walker (two runs) and Bulson all had doubles in the contest for SCSU.

In game two, SCSU and NSU engaged in a pitchers' duel through the first four innings before the Huskies broke the shutout with a run by Matt Quade in the bottom of the fifth off a hit by Owens. In the top of the eighth inning, NSU knotted the score at 1-1. The Huskies then rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning with a bomb to left centerfield by Jake Shusterich, which scored Walker. The homer proved to be the game winner for the Huskies as pitcher Shannon Ahern gained the victory with two innings of relief work.

Riley Ahern started the game for the Huskies and went seven innings with three hits allowed, no runs and nine strikeouts. At the plate, Owens led SCSU with two hits and one RBI, while Shusterich had the home and two RBIs.
