BURNSVILLE, MINN. - Despite the shortened athletic year, the St. Cloud State University athletic department was quite successful in 2019-20. While the spring sports were unable to enjoy the spoils as much as their fall and winter counterpoints, the student-athletes still experienced plenty of successes. On Tuesday, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) recognized 48 Husky spring sport athletes as members of the conference's Spring All-Academic Team and Academic Team of Excellence.
Forty-eight honorees marks the highest total for St. Cloud State in recent history, as the Huskies have not eclipsed the 40 honoree mark since the spring of 2016. The track and field team led the way with 22 honorees this spring, while the men's and women's golf team combined for eight honorees. Seven St. Cloud State baseball and softball student-athletes were honored, while tennis saw four student-athletes on the list.
In total, 830 student-athletes received NSIC All-Academic honors this spring and 458 of those student-athletes were named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence. To be eligible to receive All-Academic Team honors, student-athletes must be a member of the varsity travel team and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher. Additionally, the student-athletes must academically be of sophomore, junior or senior standing and completed one full year at the institution. Members of the All-Academic Team of Excellence must maintain a 3.60 cumulative GPA during the year.Â
