St. Cloud State Men’s Soccer Back in the Winners Circle After First Home Win of 2026

García and Kanu goals lead the Huskies to a 2-1 victory
ST. CLOUD, Minn - St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (2-3-0) hosted the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars (0-4-1). The Huskies would go on to win their first home game of 2026.
Andrés García got things going quickly for the Huskies, scoring the opening goal header in just the 5th minute of action off a corner kick from Kingsley Kanu. In the 39th minute, Husky keeper Erik Willke came out of his box to try to clear the ball, but the Prairie Stars, Robin Lemke Bergseth, kept it away from Willke to score the equalizer for UI-Springfield. Fortunately for the Huskies, Kanu would continue tallying points, as he opened the 2nd half with a goal of his own off the assist from Johan Lopez in the 49th minute. The Kanu goal would be the deciding factor, as the Huskies would go on to win 2-1, their first home win of the season in their final game of non-conference play.
The Huskies continue to show off the amount of depth they have, playing 21 total players today. With 17 newcomers this season, the Huskies have had plenty of different lineups to play with and have a multitude of players who can perform at a high level.
