CROOKSTON, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University men's basketball team is back to its winning ways. After suffering a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) sweep at the hands of Bemidji State last weekend, the Huskies took care of business in Friday evening's tilt against the University of Minnesota-Crookston, as they hung on for a key 74-70 win.
Anthony Roberts (Chicago, Ill. / Oak Park) was the best player on the court for St. Cloud State, as he led the way in points, rebounds and steals en route to his fourth double-double of the season. The sophomore guard tallied a team-leading 23 points and 12 rebounds in Friday's game against the Golden Eagles. Josh Tomasi (Melbourne, Australia / Western Colorado) added 16 points and seven rebounds in the victory, while Matthew Willert (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) made his first collegiate start, tallying 11 points and nine rebounds in 32 minutes of play.
The Huskies were offensively and defensively on fire in the first half of play, as they outscored Minnesota-Crookston 47-24 in the opening minutes of play. Though the Golden Eagles outscored St. Cloud State in the second half, the 23 point deficit was too much to overcome, as St. Cloud State went on to win the game by a final score of 74-70.
With the win, the Huskies overall record improves to 6-7, and they are now 4-5 in NSIC play. St. Cloud State will look to get back to .500 on Saturday when it faces the same Minnesota-Crookston team at 1:30 p.m. in Crookston, Minnesota.
