
Women's soccer drops heartbreaker to Michigan Tech

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State University women's soccer team dropped its second match of the season Saturday afternoon. The Huskies surrendered a single goal to host Michigan Tech in 90 minutes of work but were unable to answer, falling by a final score of 1-0.
TURNING POINT
St. Cloud State held the hosting Huskies scoreless in the first half, as first year goalkeeper Evie Kohn (West Lakeland, Minn. / Stillwater Area) made two saves in the opening half to preserve the scoreless tie. After the scoreless first, Michigan Tech struck first in the second, scoring in the 46th minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Huskies. St. Cloud State was unable to answer, as the team fell 1-0 in its second game of 2021.
TOP HUSKIES
- Redshirt freshman Evie Kohn (West Lakeland, Minn. / Stillwater Area) made four saves in 90 minutes of work, allowing just one goal on five total shots in the match
- Senior forward Nicole Friis (Appleton, Wis. / Appleton North) and junior Hannah Barjesteh (Woodbury, Minn./ Woodbury) tallied St. Cloud State's two shots on goal in the match, while senior Karlie Valdez (West Haven, Utah / Fremont) led the team in total shots with three.
NOTES
- The Huskies were last shut out to open the season in 2019, when they tied Michigan Tech 0-0 and lost to Northern Michigan 2-0. That season, St. Cloud State posted a 12-5-3 record with a 10-3-2 mark in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
UP NEXT
St. Cloud State will enjoy a bye weekend before returning for NSIC action on September 17. The Huskies will officially open the conference season at home, when they host the University of Mary at 4:00 p.m. CT at Husky Stadium.
