Tupy throws seven scoreless innings, Gamm homers for the first time this season
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – St. Cloud State Baseball (6-5) got another career best start from redshirt freshman Luke Tupy (7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 12 K's) and the Huskies won their fourth consecutive game on Wednesday over Malone, 8-3. Senior Paul Steffensen (1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 BB) got the scoring started with a bases loaded single to drive in two runs in the bottom of the first. That was more than enough run support for Tupy, who was on cruise control for most of the game. Senior Max Gamm added a solo shot in the fourth, and the Huskies scored five in the sixth to open the game up late. Malone was able to push a few runs across late, but redshirt sophomore Jack Habeck (0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, K) and senior Nick Brauns (1.2, 3 H, ER, 0 BB) came in relief to finish off the 8-3 win for St. Cloud State.
KEY MOMENT
St. Cloud State put up a five spot in the bottom of the sixth to give them a comfortable 8-0 lead. Gamm doubled off the wall scoring the first run of inning, followed by an RBI single from redshirt sophomore Tate Wallat, then capped off by a three-run home run by redshirt junior Sam Riola.
TOP HUSKIES
Senior Infielder Max Gamm
"I just saw the ball early and looked to do damage on the first fastball I saw in the zone. Didn't try to do too much, just put my best swing on it. Excited for a day off tomorrow, and if we keep playing like we have so far this week, it should be a fun weekend."
UP NEXT
St. Cloud State has a day off Thursday to rest up and prepare for a three-game slate on the weekend. They start the weekend off Friday night, against Bentley University at Sandford Stadium with game time set for 5:00 p.m. CT.
